From Software "going to multiplatform" was a good decision?

Yes 97 56.40%

No 61 35.47%

I don't know 14 8.14%

Total:172

I don't think so. Many OG Demon's Souls fans have somewhat been disappointed by the online part of Dark Souls.

I think good decision because otherwise their "sequel" would only have the sales of the PS3 and be on significant decline compared to first.

I think it makes sense that sequel sold less because many people that bought Demon Souls to try it themselves found it an awful grind chore to play (like me). It also had poor story/gameplay. Sure if you grind through the start of the game, you can become very powerful and don't have to grind much anymore and then have more interesting gameplay and enemies and things are generally better... but how many people would get past that initial grind and blandness?

If you only played a little bit, the only interesting thing was how they handled deaths and social features, but rest of game was bland. The death and social features are being copied by new games like ZombiU. Heck, the whole MiiVerse idea for Wii U seems to be a console level expansion of the social features I first saw in Demon Souls.

The Demon's Souls vs. Dark Souls has been debunked. Dark Souls is selling faster on PS3 only

Enslaved was a new IP that simply wasn't as appealing as Heavenly Sword. A chick with a sword in a game that plays quite like God of War vs. an adventure game that no one knew about. I guess HS benefitted there because Sony advertised it for them. They didn't advertise Demon's Souls though, did they? No, they didn't even want to publish it.

Heavenly Sword was also released to a large number of game starved PS3 early adopters eager for something new and shiny to play on their systems. Enslaved came out in a very hectic deluge of software with very limited marketing which will also have helped Heavenly Sword shift more units IMO.

RIP Dad 25/11/51 - 13/12/13. You will be missed but never forgotten.

I wonder how many of those Demo Souls were sold at a bargain bin price compared to Dark Souls.

Dark Souls has sold 1.6m in just about only 1 year. (Not counting the recently launched PC version)

Demon's Souls has been out 3.5 years in Japan, 3 years in the US, and 2.5 years everywhere else and has sold 1.6m.

Dark Souls should see 3m when it's all said and done. I think what should be up for debate is what it's lifetime sales will be, and do they, then, justify multiplatform. Not current numbers.

Next on VGChartz.

Sony fans slate sales of Halo 4, because after 4 weeks Halo 4 hasn't sold as much as Halo 3.

Generalizing is so cool bro!

I'm not sorry. The thread speaks for itself.

So you admit you were both blatantly and shamelessly generalizing?

Yes I was generalizing. At least only to this site.

Forget a little the gamer questions because I know the game going multiplatform is better for the consumer.

But about the From Software, the company itself.

Demon's Souls sold without any marketing: 1.64m

Dark Souls combined sold with some marketing: 1.67m

I thing From Software expected more sales from Dark Souls... way better sales than Demon's Souls... but that's not happened.

What do you think guys???

Give it some more time. I bought Demons Souls last year for 15 bucks. I will buy Dark Souls when its cheaper to.  I never heard about either one in TV commercials or whatever.  All I hear is word of mouth stuff and people usually say   "do you know dark souls? its like demons souls"  So they usually name both games.

But its true that Dark Souls sales are a bit low.

But their crappy PS port damaged their reputation.

Demons Souls hit $15 on amazon in less than a year after release and stayed there for a long time before going back up to $20. Dark souls has only resently become a $20 price point, it will continue to sell. I don't think it was a bad idea to go multiplat.

I would say that when a game is a bit "obscure" it is better to be only for the PS3, because PS3 fans support exclusives better.   If Heavy Rain was multiplatform, it would have sold like crap.   Also look at heavenly Sword Vs. Enslaved. HS sold 1.5M, while enslaved sold 880K.

If Dark Souls was an exclusive, it would have sold lot more.

Heavenly Sword sold really well because it came out at the beginning of the PS3 life cycle and there weren't many other choices at the time. I'm sorry to say if Enslaved was a PS3 exclusive it still would not have sold as well as Heavenly Sword, even though it should have since it was an awesome game.

Who says that a exclusive Demon's Souls 2 or Dark Souls would have sold so much more than Demon's Soul? Maybe it would have taken the Resistance road...

The biggest difference between demon's souls and dark souls is that demon's souls was a new IP. and dark souls is a sequel. you can't compare the two.

Sequels sell faster than new IPs do.

LBP2, Crackdown 2

LBP proves my point though, doesn't it? LBP first year, 1.8 million, LBP 2 first year >2 million.

Although LBP 2 was released during Jan I believe.

Still, LBP was bundled a lot, and has performed consistently.

Crackdown on the other hand was a launch title, it was bound to do better. Similar to resistance.

Take the example of similar games : Gears of war, gears of war 2, uncharted, uncharted 2, etc etc.

Assassin's Creed, Call of duty, all sequels sell faster than before but the LTD sales are similar.
