I hardly dare to guess whether Windows 8 will succeed or not, but it certainly is original. There's nothing quite like it in the mobile space, and in the desktop/laptop space it's the most radical departure since 1984.
It might not pay off in the end, but at least give MS some credit for gambling with one of the greatest monopolies in modern history.

Credit for gambling?? I don't award for having balls, but rather only praise for good results. Keep in mind that the first guy over the trenches always had the biggest balls, but he died the soonest as well.
And ive read some reviews on windows 8 and in summary, they arent great for desktop PCs, unless one is going to get some touchscreen monitor or what have you. The whole strategy of having the OS built a little bit for the PC and a little bit for the tablets in the end satisfy neither. I could care less if tablets have grown, the biggest market is still PCs and Microsoft is ditching it. Apple and Google could care less.
