By fine, I meant a sustainable amount of relevancy. Which is the topic of this thread.

What do you mean "in their places"?
Looks like every irrelevant blog out there decided to side against Sony.
I have read at least 7 articles of this kind at N4G this week.
But they've had the best selling home console for the last year...
| kowenicki said: Leo why cant you understand this thread? It is very simple. It is about falling market share, falling sales and diminishing brand. Surely you don't disagree that those three things have happened? This isn't about what Sony "gives gamers" or how great their games or devices are to fans such as you. |
two words, Playstation blog.
Sony will stay relevant with Playsation blog.
MikeB predicts that the PS3 will sell about 140 million units by the end of 2016 and triple the amount of 360s in the long run.
Just check the weekly charts, you can even remove Japanese sales and it still beats the 360 by about 10k each week

As for the consoles, as long as they don't go crazy with their next hardware (imo a max of $450) Sony should be fine, they'll probably never be as successful as the PS1 and PS2 eras but still remain relevant in the future years. |
this.

I agree that their handheld division is on the verge of losing all relevancy (some might say it already has).
But I think it's a different case for their home console. Looking at their long term past, they have dropped severely. No doubt about that. But looking at their immediate past (past 2-3 years), it looks like they are making progress. They've made some great decisions during these past few years, but they couldn't offset the terrible decisions made during PS3's initial years. They had taken too much damage to completely reverse the PS3's situation. But the PS4 is a new console with the potential of great change. And if Sony's enters next gen making decisions similar to the ones they've recently made with the PS3, then they'll be much more than 'just relevant' imo.
