Forums - Nintendo - IBM confirms that Wii U does not use Power 7 CPU

Honestly, I think people need to think about what IBM is (probably) saying ...

The Wii U is using a custom CPU, with a design that is most likely now owned by Nintendo, that will not be marketed as part of the Power7 line of processors. This does not mean that the technology is inferior, it could be be contract issues with Nintendo or it could be that Nintendo's needs were unique and resulted in substantial customization.

Nintendo hired IBM and spend a lot of money on R&D to make the chip. Youre probably right its their custom chip.

Oh lawd. About a million posts on vgchartz invalidated.

Yep, a lot of people put a lot of energy into defending the Wii U as being much more powerful than it is.  I was hoping that those people would be correct, but I sort of had a feeling that things would turn out this way.

I wonder now how many think that Wii U isn't overpriced by $50.  Or how many still believe that Wii U can easily do 1080p 60fps on just about any AAA 3D title.  I think it's time for many on this site to start thinking a bit more realistically about the capabilities of this new console.

Just as the Wii was barely capable of anything more than Xbox and Gamecube, such is the Wii U to PS3 and X360.

You play terrible PlayStation games. Please leave the Nintendo board.

Well, don't you sound grown up.  I'm trying to get to the facts, regardless of the outcome.  So just because I'm defending the information that makes the Wii U seem less powerful, it doesn't mean that I'm anti-Nintendo or anything like that.  Why do you think Wii U is so easily backward compatible?  Enhanced Broadway architecture is the most obvious answer, which is codenamed Espresso... Project Cafe ring any bells?  When you put all the information together, it makes the most sense.

You seem to care about specs. You might want to get one of these.

Oh, cool!  Does it play The Last of Us, or the latest Halo and Metroid games?!

It prolly will in the long long future, it already plays metroid games though ^^b

But yeah, so basically you are saying it's the games that count, not the power? I'm totally with you on that one, bro! I got The Last of Us on pre-order too! Unfortunately done with Halo, but really, if you care about specs and power, I'd totally recommand you become a PC gamer, you can do some amazing cool shit on it. Torchlight II is fucking awesome too.

Nintendo WiiU is backwards compatible so in this case you are right BUT  You seem to have no clue at all why it is backwards compatible.

The reason WiiU can play Wii games is not that the WiiU processor is just an enhanced Wii processor or whatever...  it is because the WiiU has Wii hardware inside.  Guess why it cant handle Wii games in 1080p and will only render the games in 480p and maybe only maybe upscale and output at 1080p
Enhaned Wii technology that would be able to play WiiU games should at least be able to handle old Wii games in 720p etc  right? right?

Remember the Wii?  It was able to play Gamecube games  not because of similar technology  but because it had Gamecube hardware inside   and guess why the newer Wii's cant handle Gamecube games ... They dont have Gamecube hardware inside and the fact that the old Wii version had (in this case its true)  "enhanced" Gamecube cpu etc.  is irrelevant because it is was and will never be the reason it played Gamecube games.

If you know about this tech you would know that a simple change in the technology would make a new console need to emulate the old games because its not compatible even tho its similar.

And btw  IBM never said  the WiiU does not use Power7 technology  they simply gave some sort of a  NO COMMENT reply...

They said the WiiU is based on Power processor technology  which is true  but the Pippin or even the 360 and Ps3  are based on this technology. IS there even 1 IBM CPU that is not base on that anymore?

And the WiiU has (according to IBM) some of its most advanced technology inside its CPU. And another tweet clearly said it has something in common with Watson.
The WiiU has simply no stock Power7 CPU and therefore it is NO Power7 CPU.  As far as I remember IBM never said it is a Power7 CPU  and they never said it is NOT based on Power7 or related to it.  They said it has Power7 technology inside and when asked if it is a power7 cpu they told the truth and said NO it is not it is a CUSTOM DESIGN of the power cpu technology.

I wonder how so many people are able to use the internet when they clearly lack reading comprehension.

Seriously  when I see threads like "I LACK READING COMPREHENSION SO I MISINTERPRET AND PRETEND IT WAS CONFIRMED OR DENIED!"

Or the  my moms dads sisters uncles fathers sons fart smelled strange it means XY...

I feel I have to climb on trees and eat some bananas  so I could know how these people work...

DERPXAMPLE:  (Derp Example)
If a Hindu would ask McDonalds "Are your Hamburgers made with cow meat?"  And then McDonalds would say "Clarification! Our Hamburgers include beef" does it make them automatically deny that it has cow meat inside which we all know is called beef? NO LOL.  And everyone thinking  "McD's confirms no cows were harmed during the process of making hamburgers"  is actually fail and funny at the same time. And even tho its funny it's sad at the same time.

P.S. General Question:
How can it be that so many people on the web that are native English speakers (not talking about vgchartz alone I am talking about the whole web) cant understand what they read when I as a foreigner that started to learn English with I dunno 14? have no problem at all to distinguish  clear statements from vague answers.

how was my interpretation of a NERD RAGE?
