has he updated his numbers? There have been some adjustments on the site but i don't think he has done anything. Particularly after april NPD.

a better one would be ps3 2008 vs ps2 any year OTHERS
you know why people
@KZ2: No, they are becoming more and more representative and objective. Some of Crazzy' controversial assumtions made for this comparision will mather less as times goes on and comparision timeframe is longer. This does not mean that it will be proven that PS3 is selling as good as PS2 but comparision in itself will be better.
@Sqrl: The next 10 PS2 weeks in Crazzy' comparision will be from July 8th to Sep 9th with around 2.5 mln sales. You are probably refering to Holiday sales but Crazzy won't take them into account for a while. Your point that PS2 and PS3 difference will grow in following weeks is probably true but it won't happen as fast as you said.
This is just as flawed as it was when it started.... The PS2 was younger in 2002 than the PS3 is in 2008.

2009.04.30 - PS3 will OUTSELL x360 atleast by the middle of 2010. Japan+Europe > NA.
Gran Turismo 3 - 1,06 mln. in 3 weeks with around 4 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Gran Turismo 4 - 1,16 mln. with 18 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X - around 2 mln. with 5 mln. PS2 on the launch.
Final Fantasy X-2 - 2.4 mln. with 12 mln. PS2 on the launch.
1.8 mln. PS3 today(2008.01.17) in Japan. Now(2009.04.30) 3.16 mln. PS3 were sold in Japan.
PS3 will reach 4 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 25k.
PS3 may reach 5 mln. in Japan by the end of 2009 with average weekly sales 50k.
PS2 2001 vs PS3 2008 sales numbers =) + New games released in Japan by 2009 that passed 100k so far
CrazzyMan said: The PS2 was younger in 2002 than the PS3 is in 2008. How old is PS3 by July 2008 (in terms of years or weeks) ?How old was PS2 by July 2001 ? LOLz. |
I meant 2001.
PS3 as of the end of June 2008 is 86 weeks old worldwide
It is 86 weeks in Japan
It is 85 weeks in America
It is 67 weeks in Europe
PS3 as of the end of June 2001 was 69 weeks old worldwide (give or take a week)
but the more telling ages are seprated regionally
It was 69 weeks in Japan
It was 40 weeks in America
It was 36 weeks in Europe
Pretty much all of those 36/40 weeks in America and Europe were also heavily supply constrained, (you have used the last 26 weeks of each region so far I believe) and in Japan I think supply was tight.
meanwhile there has been ample supply of PS3s for all 26 weeks, with the 80GB bundle exception in the last couple of weeks.
Console life = weeks from first LAUNCH at all, NOT in every region.
And 16 weeks don`t have that big effect, for a 2001 vs 2008 years comparison. :)
p.s. Wii is supply constrained in USA for last 90weeks, by your logic, we can`t compare Wii sales in USA since launch with any other console, which weren`t supply constrained? What is your point then? =))

Another factor that has been missed -- in a few weeks, the PS3 will have to be compared to the PS2's phenomenal 2001 Christmas/Holiday sales. That will lead to it falling further behind relative to the previous console.
Just remember, as they say on the investment commercials, past returns is not a guarantee of future results.

this thread will turn into a joke in the next 10 weeks.

That is the big failure with this thread, no the console life is not the same. It is difficult to make a comparison fair when the release dates are so different across regions. but it would be more fair to do this seperate by region, so comparing 2001 sales of PS2 to 2007 sales of PS3 in America and Japan, and then using 2008 for PS3 in Europe (and comparing to 2001 PS2 in Europe)
This would give the same bias in favour of the PS3 for Europe (PS2 low supply in 2001) but would alleviate some of the PS3 bias for the other 2 regions. (probably even PS2 biased in Japan... as by 2001 most of PS2 supply was probably ok there)
You can compare any console with any other if you like, but you need to get your facts straight before you use that comparison to say one thing is better than another.
