What D:!?
They could keep the mechanics the same and the design, just take in the people who developed Wipeout last few years XD |
A lot of WipEout's identity was made in Britain. Music, aesthetic design, etc. Moving development to Tokyo... would not reflect that.
Polyphony are amazing at what they do, but I do not think they would be amazing at WipEout.
Besides that, it would be a waste of resources. Gran Turismo is a consistent multi-million seller every release. A WipEout game is yet to reach 1m sold.

Oh I see ;( |
To be fair, if they made a new WipEout game in Tokyo with some of the original team, I'd take it. Just knowing the series has a future would make me happy!
Good afternoon Pilots
As you may be aware; Studio Liverpool shut its doors on the 22nd of August 2012.
It was a very sad day- the end of an era and will never be forgotten. While we wait for news on the future of WipEout, Online play will continue to be supported and there will be plenty of WipEout community events, giveaways and goodies to look forward to!
WipEout’s passion will live on - Together we are stronger and together we will keep WipEout alive.
WE ♥ WO!

UPDATE!
But take lightly.

Sony is to hand over the WipEout IP to UK developer Evolution Studios, MCV understands.
The series appeared to have come to an end with the closure of fellow Sony studio and series creator Studio Liverpool last month.
However, the IP will now live on, a source close to the matter has said, with MotorStorm creators Evolution Studios assuming control of the franchise. It is unclear whether or not this will impact the development of future MotorStorm titles.

good news I guess,I like wipeout, but I've always sucked at it.

Not sure if want.
I don't see what Evolution could do with the IP that would be better than what Liverpool did. They were masters of the genre, but the series just doesn't sell that well. And it would probably end up with Evolution getting shut down if there was another under-performing WipEout.
I thought Evolution had taken on staff from the Project Gotham Racing team anyway. Was more interested in seeing some new racing game ideas from them.

The good news is that the studios are right next to eachother, hopefully Evolution have just hired some of the old Liverpool guys. And for what it's worth I thought Pacific Rift was fantastic.
EDIT:
Uh oh..
UPDATE: In the moments since publication MCV has been contacted by two sources who claim that Evolution is not the new WipEout developer. We will await an official confirmation.
