Forums - Nintendo - Wii U, can you use headphones when playing from TV

The Wii U pad has headphones jacks and I'm assuming the main purpose is for when you want to play games on the control as opposed to TV. I wanted to know if you can have the game displayed on the tv and still use the headphones?

If so this would be amazing for me personally, theres always  so much noise in my house I can never really appreciate the sound design/music in games. This would definitely lead to me getting a Wii U early next year.

Just plug your headphones into your TV.

I suppose this is for chatting. They showed multiple times that you can easily start (video) chatting. So it's most likely used for your headset/headphones if you don't want to use the GamePad's speaker/mic.
