Forums - General - NASA Mars Images Reveals a "Doorway" Structure

I would find it more believable to be a doorway if it wasn't for the fact that its the same color as the other shadows so probably just caused from some ridge right next door. Since these are 2D images it plays tricks with our minds.

I think it would be more believable if I saw a doormat...  With "Welcome Home Aliens"...

I wonder - which console would the aliens prefer? The PS3, 360 or the Wii?
According to my studies, that console generation was won by the Wii, but they are several years ahead know, and they PS90 is the winner according to www.VGmarz.com

LOL, Mr. Will-wrestle-for food ... ha ha ... Good one.

Interesting article, btw ... cool shot too.

Why is it that everyone thinks we have to terraform Mars or other cellestial bodies to make it like Earth so that we can live there? Its very impractical and it would be much more efficient to just build an enclosed structure with greenhouses growing food while relying on energy comes from nuclear or solar sources. Then the only thing standing in the way of making the colony self-sufficient is mining, which will be a breeze with the low gravity of Mars as well as the many moons in the solar system.

Tried that and it failed. See Biosphere 2, its about 45 mins from Tucson, AZ. If we couldn't get it to work on Earth where the outside environment is relatively friendly, I certainly wouldn't trust it in a hazardous environment.

Terraforming is a more permanent solution and safer in the long run.

Hmmmm. It appears to be left there by the Protheans. Inform the council.

I agree with you here Chunky (hmm, now I have the urge to Rent Childs Play...).  It's also much more "human", by which I mean we're just as likely to go in and whack the regular ecosystems that may or may not exist and impose our own =).  Mar's probably isn't a big deal since there isn't an atmosphere to support life, but if we do it a few times on empty planets, when we find one covered in life whats to stop us from terraforming that badboy for our own use too?

Are we gonna have Planet Earth's 2 through 50 in a few millenia?  Can you imagine the technical support calls you'd have to make as they route you back to India from Alpha Centauri?  You'd be on the call all week before getting an answer.

(alright, that was a low blow at India, but I just had to deal with outsourced tech support so sue me.)

I'll bet that's where all the blue meanies are hiding....

Damn it!  Now we have to find a new place to hide.  First we lose Pepperland and now this... thanks a lot Wojitas.

Biosphere 2 tried to remake Earth in a closed environment.  If we cant recreate Earth's ecosystem in such a small space what makes you think it'll be even easier to do so for an entire planet.  Thats not to mention that in order to terraform Mars we would have to relocate massive amounts of carbon dioxide or other greenhouse gases to Mars from some other source (Venus? Jupiter?) which is very impractical.  I cant imagine how much energy and resources would have to be put into making Mar's atmosphere habitable, let alone upkeeping it over time because Mar's low gravity causes it to continually lose large amounts of its atmosphere.

What I am talking about is greenhouse whose sole purpose is food production, which is pretty much the same thing as greenhouses on Earth that grow food.  This is actually a very easy endevour.

I know you are joking, but if the human race spread beyond our solar system then communication would be heavily strained.  Alpha Centauri is 4 light years away so if you sent your friend there a message at the speed of light you would get a reply in 8 years.

Furthermore, the same species in different solar systems would be a superior form of geographic isolation, which would cause humans to eventually evolve into different species so we can fight crazy looking aliens in the future which just happen to be differently evolved humans.
