Forums - Sales Discussion - Prediction: Wii U will sell under 40 million units

40 millions in Europe alone.

If this launch is any indication I believe that Nintendo will try to keep all this hype for a long time (from both hardcore and casual gamers) so I don't agree with you. I'll say 60-70 million at worst.

Nintendo and PC gamer

80-100 millions, quote me in 5 years!

Won't happen, unless we face some kind of post-apocalyptic future in the next few years... which would mean the apocalypse has to be sometime in between.

I disagree that the WiiU is likely to sell under 40million units.

For one I believe that the pricing of the console and strong initial support (in my opinion) from third parties will give the WiiU a good start.

From this good start I believe more third party developers will jump on board with the WiiU and Nintendo will announce games for the WiiU at E3 2013 that really show off Nintendo franchises in HD and the capabilities/possibilities of the WiiU gamepad.

I think Nintendo will most likely have between 60-70million consoles sold by the end of its lifetime with a higher attach rate for games than the Wii.

May I ask why?

It is already showing great game support and demand from consumers.

It will sell far more than 40m. I'm not sure how much yet as I kind want to see how it does first quarter 2013, but I'm think it will be in PS360 territory at the moment.

The demand from consumers is natural for a new home console from one of the big 3. Once all the huge Nintendo fans have bought one, I think sales will be quite poor, and that's when my prediction will start to come into effect. I don't think it'll grab the casuals lie the Wii did

Even so that's an over 60% drop in sales compared to the Wii including the fact that many core games may be enticed to the WiiU as neither PS4 or Xbox720 have been announced leaving them with little choice for a new home console after waiting so long.

I also believe it will sell more the 40 million units. The price is good, this is something the masses want, third parties are jumping on board, innovative controller will keep people interested. It will have a good start, the only thing that can hurt it will be the competition from Microsoft and Sony obviously, but by then the Wii U should not have much of a problem reaching 40 million units.

This makes me think though. It is amazing how much the video game market has expanded. 40 million units seems like small sales compared to what the current gen consoles have been able to accomplish.

Currently Playing: Mario Kart 7, Mario Kart 8, Luigi's Mansion: Dark Moon, The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask, Super Smash Bros for Wii U

Predictions:

Super Mario Galaxy will pass Super Mario 64 in total sales CORRECT!

i doubt it... even though Nintendo are being more aggressive with the hardcore market, they are still trying get the casuals.

i would say 70 millions

PS4 - over 100 millions let's say 120m
Xbox One - 70m
Wii U - 25m

Vita - 15m if it will not get Final Fantasy Kingdoms Heart and Monster Hunter 20m otherwise
3DS - 80m

i'll take 40mil. fanboys are crazy though. but I dont see it doing a well as the wii, I mean, old people will probably be a lost cause this time around and since now younger kids only want the next cod they might avoid nintendo too... but we will see.
