Actual than most Nintendo fans wouldn't buy the game.

Nintendo fans from the wii days didn't buy games that were third party multi-system (besides COD) but they tend to buy Wii-only games more.

Nintendo fans usually like to buy games that other systems don't have so they can brag.

It will probbaly do better on Wii-U because it will be treated like Nintendo IP (nintendo is publishing) and will be marketed as Wii-U Hardcore Title for Image reasons.

Xbox360/Ps3 would just release it as some other tittle. Look at what Nintendo do at there confernece they made trailer to make it look like hey this game matters Sony/Mirco would never do this.

It seem to me this is a timed exclusive.

They havent really made it that clear why this game can't be multiplatform, so I'm going to venture a theory.

This game might not be out next year, but by 2014. Thus I think they are preparing to make this game truly next gen in the sense they will port it to the PS4 & 720 when the time comes rather than limiting the games potential to the PS3, 360 & Wii U.

I honestly cant see them making this game a Wii U exclusive a good buisness decision, the sales of the first game came from outside the Wii market. We shall see.

My point is I think this game is only exclusive until the next Sony and Microsoft consoles are announced. They simply want to move onto next gen, which is commendable I suppose.

This looks like a new- more advanced breed of bullshit.

The whole thing is pretty sad, actually.

I actually laughed right now, but I should be sad since you are right. There is nothing wrong with them doing this decision, but lie to their buyers is another thing. Better be quiet than do this PR.

New/niche games have a better chance of selling well on a new console. Customers are more open-minded at that time than they are mid to late gen.

If it was on PS360, it would probably have sold worse than the first considering how saturated the sales of those consoles are thanks to a gen that has been going on to long.

Even if this was true, putting the title on all three consoles would still result in the most sales.

The issue, the way I see it, is that one company appears to have had enough faith to pick it up. And that company happens to be a console maker. Thus, it becomes an exclusive.

There has not been cross-over game-making since the classic days (where companies made games for competing consoles). I doubt we will see a return of them.

Thus, the choice becomes buy the console or don't play the game. Ironically, this has been the "choice" that X360 and PS3 owners have continually told Wii owners over the last few years.

". Bayonetta has fans the world over, and we would never dream of alienating them from participating in the future of Platinum Games.

That being said, the console games market is in a state of upheaval, so establishing a new game franchise requires a considerable amount of will, determination, and love. Bayonetta is a brand that we want to see become stronger, reaching the hands of more and more gamers, so we have continued to consult with Sega, the previous game’s publisher, on how we can make sure this takes place. Our answer was a new partnership with Nintendo."

O_o So they put it exclusively on a console with currently 0 install base and unlikely to get a substantial install base for a game like this any time soon.

Fine to move from being multiplat to exclusive and ditching the previous consoles. But don't talk bullshit while you're announcing it. Just come out and say that Nintendo were keen to help publish the game, you were happy to take up their offer, and Sega gave it the nod. Don't pretend that the game is going to reach more people on a new console than the original game did on 2 consoles with substantial install bases. People don't like it when you think they are fools and can get away with saying anything.

Do what you want, but be honest about it.

Maybe with the attention it will get by being exclusive on a system with a still-small library and Nintendo marketing it on TV plus MiiVerse, it'll sell really well.

Do you have any evidence to back up the claim that a niche game franchise switching from 2 console multiplat to a 3rd console exclusive for the 2nd game in the series at the beginning of that 3rd console's life does better than the original game?

Best example I can find of a niche franchise switching consoles is Oddworld (albeit it was exclusive on one console and switched to exclusive on the other, so not exactly the same situation). How did that work out for the franchise? Not all that well. The 2 Xbox entries combined sold the same as the lower selling game on the PS1. Yes Wii U will sell better than XB, so Bayonetta has a better chance, but I would be very surprised if B2 sells 2 million. That means either negative, zero or single digit positive growth. Not the "more and more" and "stronger" that the Platinum dude is trying to spin.

Maybe there are some examples where the franchise saw substantial growth by switching and reducing the number of consoles it was available on. It would be interesting to see.

Fact is for the franchise to become stronger and reach "more and more" (not just a few more) gamers it needs to be on all 3 nexgen consoles.

What's done is done; hopefully Nintendo does a good job in creating hype and attention for this game. Perhaps it can have the same success RE4 had for the Gamecube.

Fact is: Sega didn't want to produce this game.

I don't think that Platinum asked Nintendo first, they surely asked Sony & Microsoft but they obviously refused support. Without Nintendo there would be no Bayonetta 2.

Maybe/Maybe not ...

While it seems counter-intuitive, the fewer platforms a high quality game is on the higher profile the game becomes; and the earlier in the lifespan of a console the higher profile an exclusive game becomes. A large portion of the reason for this is that later in a console's life games can get lost in the library (after all the system is seeing a steady stream of games and has a massive library of budget games)  so games released earlier stand out more, and exclusive games attract a lot of hype (sometimes just for stupid reasons, like someone saying "Name something the Wii U can do that the HD consoles can't" and then  someone answers "Play Bayonetta 2").

this is so stupid

buy all three consoles. That is what I did as a Wii onwer because Nintendo took a completely different direction.

Can't afford it? Then fucking save money, they aren't due out for another year.
