Forums - General - Top 10 Best Selling Albums Of The Soundscan Era (1991 - oo)

The black album is my preferred Metallica work.
They generally had abandoned their thrash origins by then and were making some really good music, lots of their early work was good too.

Hopefully they will have realised that raping their good name with albums like St. Anger actually isn't good for them when they release their new album.

Oh and its sad how much crap music is in there, Backstreet Boys for gods sake? N Sync?

Whooo Celine!!!!

I never knew Shania Twain was that popular.

quigontcb - as a huge metallica fan, i think they are probably one of the most hated bands and most loved no middle ground, (Napster mainly the cause).

My argument about black album to st anger is look at all the other metal bands of the 80's they died out the good bands Iron Maiden etc have sold like 20m records at most in USA/Can whereas metallica are approaching 70m+

Metallica changed with the times, the fans that loved them because of their first 4 albums and wanted just that thrash metal got shitty because they went more mainstream to survive.

thats why that always comes up "earlier stuff was the best" but if they didnt do black album and kept making thrash metal im sure they would not be around anymore and woulda finished. but for TBA to still sell consistantly 250k a year shows you how big they are. 90% comments on net i see is hate towards them but to sell over 1m albums of back catolouge in a dead year is huge.

I'm not even going to get into the whole Metallica argument, lol. I know where that road leads.

I will say this, with their first four albums, they were easily the top dogs of metal at the time. ...And Justice for All is a technical masterpiece, imo.
