Forums - Gaming - Kotaku: Valve Is Bringing Steam To Your TV Today. Watch Out, Consoles.

Honestly, doesnt make any sense at all, I already use Steam for some games on my big screen tv, it works just fine, I use a combination of a mouse/keyboard or a 360 controller with the wireless receiver for the pc, so how exactly does this change anything at all?

i hope they bring this to ps3.

Lol, I play on the big screen with my pc everyday but I never get bored of my 360.

Yay!!!

Ok, so a controller oriented interface, got that, but never the less its not that big a deal, my wireless blue mouse for the computer attached to the tv can be read on any surface from the couch to the carpet, I see the interface is specialized for controllers, but still, not a big deal in my opinion.

What's the point of this again? If I wanted to play my PC games on TV I would just use a HDMI cable. Plus many steam games already support an Xbox controller anyway.

If someone was savvy enough to go out and buy/build a PC specifically for gaming, then getting it hooked up to a TV is nothing new for them.

still needs a gaming computer to make it worth while = also who is going to seriously take their computer and plug it into their TV when they want to game then unplug it and back into your monitor when you want to do anything else.

As much as I think this is a load of hot air (doing something that is already possible) this would realistically be for someone who has built a gaming rig for their TV (I have a mid-gaming rig on it, and a super high end rig on monitors) or someone who might plug in a laptop to their tv through the laptops HDMI port.

Imagine if you could hook up your PC to more than one display. It would be awesome.

Meh.... This'll cater to a pretty small branch of gamers I would think; single men in their 20's.

why would you think that?

Thi is the one of the steps needed to make pc gaming easier for casuals. I think its a good thing. Casuals are used to download services now because of things like itunes and marketplaces on tabs. Now th ey need steam to run on tablets (windows 8) and they have a portable console that can be hooked up to a tv. who doesn't want that? Thats been my plan atleast. just have to wait for tablets that are powerful enough.

the main change is that you can use a controller in the steam menu's. other than that i think they just made it easier to see things while sitting farther away from the screen.
