Forums - Gaming - Anyone have an interest in being part of any tournaments for retro style games?

One of my many projects beyond just surviving and whatnot is to try to promote retro and retro style games.  As part of this, I would like to be part of an effort to organize retro style gaming in an esports initiatve.  Think of something like a "PGA for Pacman" or a "World Series of Coin-Ops (even modern stuff like Geometry Wars)".  Heck, can even think of what PAPA or the IFPA do for pinball, and apply it videogames.  Idea is to compete for best score, rather than the brackets model.

Well, my initiative thus far is a group of over 170 people on Facebook (see CADERS), but I would like to get things much larger.  But, I need help.

If this seems of remote interest, please speak up.  I could use at least a few other people to get involved in some capacity, at least brainstorming on ideas.

Thank you for your time...

How would this work? live streaming sessions?

Before the PS3 everyone was nice to me :(

I would be interested in it,but I'd suck at it. I'd do it just for fun.

If it really took off, it would work the way upper-end esports works, with seasons and whatnot.  Players would go to different venues and compete for high score.  Rather than do brackets, take a pool of players, and player with high score around a certain criterion, like time.  Or reaching target score in the least amount of time, or heck, you could do speed runs for games without scores (player who completes first wins).

When I had administred events over XBox Live, for tournaments, the tournament would run a week, and high score after that would win.  I even had King of CADERS with qualifier, for players to advance to the next level, and then compete for the title.  Originally used Game Room, but then went to XBLA content, and also Pinball FX2.  Had people join up on a friend list.

The advantage on the lower levels for doing retro-style game competition for points, if a game has a friend list weekly leaderboard, is that people can play whenever, and on XBox, even do so with a silver account.  It works real well actually.  On the higher levels, if you wanted to do full-blow esports, you would have to go to a physical venue where you can be observed to make sure you aren't cheating.  Could even have venues all over the place actually.

Details on how this would work, would depend fully on people getting involved with it, and do  what is agreeable.  I am not about to say X is the way it would be done, because I am not in a place to make players do what they don't want.

As for the games, well idea is to have a pool of games, and find out players who are most gifted generalists.  So, you have players demonstrate they are not only competent at say Pacman, but they could also play Asteroids, Centipede, Donkey Kong, and even the likes of Geometry Wars.

I will do N64 games and like your facebook group.

Thanks.  It is actually a group, and not a page.  It is something people need to join.  It got set up in order to have people into Game Room on XBox have a place to meet.  It probably would of been better had it been a page, but it is a group.

N64 is cool.  Would be good to get some Smash Bros. and Golden Eye going for tournaments.
