Forums - Sony - What game should I get a PS3 for?

Microsoft manned up and took responsibility for their mistakes. It cost them billions of dollars but they extended their warranty so that if you do have issues they will fix it for you. Sony has had issues in the past, but (correct me if Im wrong) they didnt go to the lengths that Microsoft did to fix the problems for consumers who already purchased the prdouct.

I also think that 33 percent is alwfully high. I only know one person whose XBox 360 failed them out of 15 or so of my friends who own one. I do know what excasterbates the problem though, when I worked at Target people would bring back faulty XBox 360s and we were told to just put them back on the selves (we did that with furniture too, and that was even more of a hassle because I had to carry the same garage cabinet in for a customer twice). All Big Box retailers do that though.

I only know one person with a 360 and he's working on his 3rd >_> 33% seems a little bit low to me.

And it's not just mircrosofts console path, their OS is a joke, it is litterally commic relief in the programming world. They dodge way to many corners, notoriously don't play by the rules in terms of monopoly laws, and have a serious issue with quality components. I actually don't know a single person who hasn't had problems with their PC. It's really sad when someone tells you not to buy an OS until it's on it's second service pack -_- PLEASE don't turn this forum into a pissing contest. Both sides have their faults.

Warhawk is my favorite shooter by far (and I own a 360 too).

After that, Uncharted is great and so is Resistance.

As far as what is coming out--buy one. Major software coming...

Haze
Killzone II
SOCOM: Confrontation
A second SOCOM in the works
God of War III
Resistance 2
Gran Turismo
LBP
Final Fantasy XIII (my favorite)

Others that look great:

Wardevil, Eight Days, The Getaway, Team ICO project should be great (maybe Shadows of the Colossus 2?), White Knight Story......So many good games coming out, that my 360 will probably be collecting some dust in 2008 unlike 2007.

Well I'm not sure if theres enough stuff on it for a "justified" purchase to you.

If your a fan of High def movies, theres a ton of those :P Blockbuster or Netflix will be your new best friend :D

Games wise, I would highly reccomend

Uncharted: Doesn't need justification, it's just friggin awesome :P

Warhawks, (I know your not a fan of online but man this game has a feel like no other, I'm not a fan of online and I adore it :D )

Unreal III, not a fan of it's online, but it's Single Player campaine with bots is pretty enjoyable ^^

Ratchet and Clank Future, simple awesome fun :P a bit on the easy side, but quite enjoyable ^^ and definately a spectacle to behold!

Resistance!!!! This game friggin rocks! It's 2 player local co-op is so challenging and overwhelming at times, you and your parter will yell in chaos numerous times :D, and I have a feeling you'll find it's assortment of weapons absolutely breathtaking :D

Rent Heavenly Sword :P The game is just gorgeous and some of the combo's are just wicked awesome :P Shooting with Sixaxis is also a blast XD and the Story is surprisingly funny!

PSN:

It's a commandment, Thou shalt own Super Stardust HD. I purchased it for $8 I think, and I've played it for some 30+ hours XD

Everyday shooter, warning! The themes WILL get stuck in your head. Play at your own risk >_>

Burnout and DMC comming up. I've heard the PS3 version of DMC4 has a few perks, and burnout runs a fraction of a percent better than the 360's counterpart. Not enough to warant the lack of achievments, but if you don't care too much about online you really won't miss out :P

Haze! This game is going to be sick :) Free Radical delievers :P If they can pull off HALF the stuff their advertising, you'll have an absolute blast with this.

And I think the best part overall is that your in the same Online-boat that I am, I don't use it very often if at all, however SHOULD I feel like messing around with it, it's absolutely free. I'll list more later, gotta go back to work ><

Ok, I mine as well leave this site. This is twice today I was going to post, and this guy said pretty much the same thing I was going to say.

The only thing I would say different is if you are not into online play, rent UT3 and see if you like the play style. It plays more like a PC FPS then a Console FPS. It’s worth getting for all the player made content that’s not made yet :p, so I am 99% sure you will get very good use out of the game for the life of the PS3, but if you don’t like the core mechanics, you probably won’t like any of the mods.

Other than that, this guy is spot on! :)

I want a PS3. I mean I really want one. The problem is I just can't figure out why I want one other than the fact I would own all three consoles.

So I want your help. I want to know which game (or small group of games) that is out or announced for the PS3 exclusively would be worth getting a PS3 for, taking into account my tastes:

Fan of many WRPG's like Fable, Mass Effect, Jade Empire (couldn't get into Oblivion).

Fan of tight shooters (play them for single player and local co-op only, I'm not big on online at all)

Adore Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy, loathed Super Paper Mario.

Haven't played MGS, but I dislike Splinter Cell.

I have never played Final Fantasy (or any non-zelda JRPG), and so I am unaware whether I will enjoy such titles (I may figure this out if I get Lost Odyssey when Australia gets it BEFORE THE USA next month).

I play the occasional racer (have never played GT) but enjoy a more arcade-y feel. Did not like Forza 2.

Im told that FFXIII is more action-based, but am unsure what this means exactly. Looks interesting though.

Bearing in mind that I could get between 7-10 full priced games for my other two consoles for the price of a PS3 (with a 2nd controller etc), which games do u think have come or will come out for the PS3 that would justify my purchasing the console.

I'm getting a PS3 myself in early March and i'd recommend you to pick up Haze from Free Radical. A big chunk of their team originally worked on Goldeneye for the N64 and has made Timesplitters on the last-gen consoles (including Gamecube, yey!...)

The game should be released around March but it still could get delayed... But i don't think it will!

It also features a 4 player co-op (online) and a 2 player offline co-op if i recall correctly. Multiplayer is included if i recall correctly too... (FR is known for their brilliant multiplayer)

I have had my laptop for 2 years now, and it has not crashed once. I even updated to the latest OS when it came out, and it upgraded in 30 minutes without a hitch. It even runs faster than it did before, and does so much more!

You’re crazy if you think they make crappy software... oh... wait, I have a Mac... never mind ;)

P.S. I make my living developing .NET apps, and while Visual Studio is a very good application, the OS it sits on is a pile of monkey shit. It's sad when I have an MSDN license, and have every bit of MS software available to me for free, and I still choose to purchase their competitors.

lol, yea :). The only thing that upset me about the whole deal was pulling remote HD time machine support. Now I know why, so they can sell the Time Portal hardware.

I have a few Mac's (and a few PC's), so the Time Portal Appliance will work well for me, and it's not badly prices at 299 for a 500 GB model (plus you can hook up an external drive as well.)

If you're set on a PS3, I keep hearing very good things about Burnout Paradise, which fits the arcade racer genre you mentioned. I hope to play it in the next few weeks, though I'm not sure if I'll rent it for PS3 or 360.

Honestly, in the genres you described, there isn't a lot going for the PS3 right now.

A few games worth buying are Uncharted and R&C and you should definitely give Heavenly Sword a rent (too short to justify the money). They don't really fit the genres you described but they're all quality games.

I guess I'm one of the few who isn't expecting much from Haze... I know Free Radical are the guys behind GoldenEye but that was a long time ago and Haze looks pretty generic to me.

Not saying that it won't be a good game, just that it doesn't look particularly interesting to me.
