Forums - Sony - What game should I get a PS3 for?

The only MGS game I played was MGS 2 Substance.  IGN ranked every Splinter Cell game higher than MGS2 Substance so its obvious that (atleast in the eyes of reviewers) I am right.  Personal taste, ofcourse, is always a factor though.

wait till another price cut, right now is not worth buying a PS3 in my opinion.

Well I'm not sure if theres enough stuff on it for a "justified" purchase to you.

If your a fan of High def movies, theres a ton of those :P Blockbuster or Netflix will be your new best friend :D

Games wise, I would highly reccomend

Uncharted: Doesn't need justification, it's just friggin awesome :P

Warhawks, (I know your not a fan of online but man this game has a feel like no other, I'm not a fan of online and I adore it :D )

Unreal III, not a fan of it's online, but it's Single Player campaine with bots is pretty enjoyable ^^

Ratchet and Clank Future, simple awesome fun :P a bit on the easy side, but quite enjoyable ^^ and definately a spectacle to behold!

Resistance!!!! This game friggin rocks! It's 2 player local co-op is so challenging and overwhelming at times, you and your parter will yell in chaos numerous times :D, and I have a feeling you'll find it's assortment of weapons absolutely breathtaking :D

Rent Heavenly Sword :P The game is just gorgeous and some of the combo's are just wicked awesome :P Shooting with Sixaxis is also a blast XD and the Story is surprisingly funny!

PSN:

It's a commandment, Thou shalt own Super Stardust HD. I purchased it for $8 I think, and I've played it for some 30+ hours XD

Everyday shooter, warning! The themes WILL get stuck in your head. Play at your own risk >_>

Burnout and DMC comming up. I've heard the PS3 version of DMC4 has a few perks, and burnout runs a fraction of a percent better than the 360's counterpart. Not enough to warant the lack of achievments, but if you don't care too much about online you really won't miss out :P

Haze! This game is going to be sick :) Free Radical delievers :P If they can pull off HALF the stuff their advertising, you'll have an absolute blast with this.

And I think the best part overall is that your in the same Online-boat that I am, I don't use it very often if at all, however SHOULD I feel like messing around with it, it's absolutely free. I'll list more later, gotta go back to work ><

From 0 to KICKASS in .stupid seconds.

try and get Uncharted, Heavenly Sword, Warhawk

or

Burnout Paradise, DMC4, MGS4 later on this year

'nothing Sony has or will have is worth the price tag' - such a fanboy thing to say!

Not when you already own the other two consoles that are out there, both of which happen to be better and cheaper.

Yeah, the 360 is a pretty well build piece of equipment. It's a real shame the PS3 has that RRod issue and issues with it's dvd drive. The fact that it also makes more noise then a refrigarator also didn't help. Great to know the 360 has a really low number of hardware failures and Microsoft once again showed it can produce the same quality hardware as they can with their software (or am I mixing 2 consoles up?). Paying a few dollars less for a product without real hd support and a standard dvd drive sure is the way to go.

I wish Microsoft would build cars. They could build the same high standard quality cars and we wouldn't have to worry abouyt hearing from their fanboys as their crappy cars would sontaniously go up in flames with them inside. We would be able to hear their cars approaching from 2 miles away which can be mighty handy.

The Wii is a well build machine that just might be a bit too expensive for it's feautures, but I love the Wii anyway.

I want a PS3.  I mean I really want one.  The problem is I just can't figure out why I want one other than the fact I would own all three consoles.

So I want your help.  I want to know which game (or small group of games) that is out or announced for the PS3 exclusively would be worth getting a PS3 for, taking into account my tastes:

Fan of many WRPG's like Fable, Mass Effect, Jade Empire (couldn't get into Oblivion).

Fan of tight shooters (play them for single player and local co-op only, I'm not big on online at all)

Adore Zelda and Super Mario Galaxy, loathed Super Paper Mario.

Haven't played MGS, but I dislike Splinter Cell.

I have never played Final Fantasy (or any non-zelda JRPG), and so I am unaware whether I will enjoy such titles (I may figure this out if I get Lost Odyssey when Australia gets it BEFORE THE USA next month).

I play the occasional racer (have never played GT) but enjoy a more arcade-y feel.  Did not like Forza 2.

Im told that FFXIII is more action-based, but am unsure what this means exactly. Looks interesting though.

Bearing in mind that I could get between 7-10 full priced games for my other two consoles for the price of a PS3 (with a 2nd controller etc), which games do u think have come or will come out for the PS3 that would justify my purchasing the console.

Thats easy i mean besides that its the best blu-ray player and blu-ray will be the future ps3 has many great games. i own and recomend folklore for your RPG fix. very good and sony always has more missions on PSN to keep it long and fun. Resistance, Motorstorm, ninja gaiden sigma (omg so hot), Ratchet, Uncharted (one of the best looking games on any system easy), Heavenly sword (short but i think better then NGS), i no your not into online but Warhawk is prolly the most fun online (and seemless not one xbox game can compare to this games none issues with lag its like im offline).

Not to metion furure titles that look good as the all popular Metal gear, Haze looks good, Killzone2, Tekken 6 (must buy for me i love fighting games) The Agency looks good, Resistence 2 is a monster game (8 player co-op) and countless more.

keep in mind the muti-plaform games i didnt add for obvious reasons which ps3 has plenty of and some are better versions since i own all systems i tend to get the better version weather it be 360 or ps3.

this myth of ps3 not having games is really untrue  and i actually play my ps3 more, i hate wii but mario is hot and 360 never gets old to me but the ps3 is my fav as i love final fantasy games more then any game out.

@Manus:  Actually the original MGS2 got a 94.8 on GR and no SC has touched that. SC:CT (my personal favorite) came close and got a 93.8. I dont know why Substance (basically a rerelease with some extra VR missions for fun) got marked down on PS2(85.5), Xbox (86.7), and PC (82) and I don't feel like going back and reading old reviews but i'm assuming coming out later it wasn't as impressive.

Microsoft manned up and took responsibility for their mistakes. It cost them billions of dollars but they extended their warranty so that if you do have issues they will fix it for you. Sony has had issues in the past, but (correct me if Im wrong) they didnt go to the lengths that Microsoft did to fix the problems for consumers who already purchased the prdouct.

I also think that 33 percent is alwfully high. I only know one person whose XBox 360 failed them out of 15 or so of my friends who own one (of course anecdotal evidence doesnt matter). I do know what excasterbates the problem though, when I worked at Target people would bring back faulty XBox 360s and we were told to just put them back on the selves (we did that with furniture too, and that was even more of a hassle because I had to carry the same garage cabinet in for a customer twice).   Merhcandise also goes through a lot of crap on the truck, especially during loading and unloading.  All Big Box retailers do this though, and thats why I buy all my games from EB.

If you need people on a forum to justify it for you then I seriously wouldn't bother. Wait until there's enough games that appeal so that it justifies itself to you. And in the unlikely event that there never are but you still want a PS3 for completion's sake then wait til you can pick one up for $50 on eBay.

Posting under this as it won't let me log in to my main account.

I'm in the same boat as you, Starcraft. I have enough money to buy a PS3 and a couple of games this second, and not really be hurt by the purchase. I own the Wii and the 360, and I want a Playstation 3. There's just not a single game that I NEED to play, yet. I figure I'll wait until MGS4 drops. Until then, I have enough Wii60 software to keep me busy.
