Forums - Sales - Vita's sales is now approaching the level of Dreamcast sales.

The Vita will die, it's not going to make it. The West gets CoD and AC, but that's not going to help much when the real games launch on home consoles at the same time. It's pretty much a done deal in the West. Western third parties will stop to care.

Japan has nothing big announced so far and it's not likely to happen either which will force many PSP game developers to either make 3DS games or one final PSP title, because the PSV's installed base is and will be growing at a snail's pace for the foreseeable future. But you never know with third parties. They may support the Vita against better judgment and all financial reasoning. It isn't over in Japan until it is over.

You'll punch me, but I still say MH is going to be announced for Vita in Japan this TGS. Very 3DS-esque scenario: a quick cash-in and a future exclusive version.

Maybe not the exclusive, but the cash-in... it just does not enter my head the idea of Capcom abandoning Vita in the cold like that. Going with dreamcast again, just look how they supported it (thanks to NAOMI board, but still)

3 Resident Evil (one exclusive)

2 Marvel vs Capcom (both exclusive - as the PS version was so crap it does not count)

2 Street FIghter 3 (exclusive), 2 Capcom Vs SNK (exclusive) Jojo, Plasma Sword and Project Justice (exclusive)

Mars Matrix and Giga Wing (exclusive)

Spawn (quit doing exclusive stuff, you get the point)

Power Stone 1 and 2

And it was not in 2 years... this was during DC first year (1999-2000) only. Sigh... really DC's death was the low point of gamers preferences.

Oh yeah! Vita: 2 ports. It simply impossible to believe that's it.

TGS is the last event in line, finally. "Wait for...", yes, TGS is the last item on the chalkboard.

With this I agree, if not at TGS, it doesn't matter anymore. My point was always clear for Vita. Don't let MH4 launch on 3DS exclusively. It's like the breaking point. If they don't announce it now, they won't announce it before "winter 2013" for sure.

One strategy Vita might pull imo(one of those "if I was Sony" thing) is to collect DS's less than huge franchises, to make a statement they're competing. Like this TWENY announcement, for example, it would cause repercussions all around the internet, maybe not in real life, that would at least keep all that doom feelings away for some weeks. Then they get another and start a cycle.

(oh, god, I hope not!)

Even in the 3DS' weeks prior to its price drop (when it hit its lowest numbers due to all the hold-outs), it didn't fall to numbers as low as Vita has recently. Ouch!

My beef with Vita is not that it's a bad device, but that without it, Sony would focus more on the PS3, which would be much better for them (and me). And let's face it: Sony is certainly not in any position right now to be championing a very niche device in today's mobile market.

Things will surely pick up a bit during the holidays and after its inevitable price drop next year, but 3DS is only going to become stronger and increase its install base even more over time, and short of a veritable miracle, I don't see Vita having a very bright future.

True, but I think the real PSP fans will get a Vita eventually. So the question is, how many true PSP fans are there? If much of that 74 million in PSP sales is a soft market then Vita's problems are going to deepen. I think Vita might be faced with GameCube level unsuccess. That was the true core of Nintendo fans, and I think the true core of PSP fans is probably at, or slightly below, GameCube levels. Whether Vita can convince many people outside that core to buy is very much in doubt.

Personally I think Sony should sell a PSP clip on unit for Playstation mobile certified smartphones that gives you the analog sticks and buttons you want for that really good portable experience, but that you can put away for when all you want is the touch screen experience or to simply use it as a phone. Yep, I think Vita should be Sony's last dedicated handheld. And it probably will be.

I thought COD for Vita could help spike sales this holiday, but base on the trailer...bleh :p . They need a Mario Miracle like when Super Mario 3D Land and Mario Kart 7 came out last holiday for the 3DS. Mario saved the oh-so-doomed 3DS

Even if, for the sake of discussion ('cause I don't think it's likely to happen), Vita gets a port of MH4...  How would it really do anything for Vita to distinguish itself from the 3DS?  It would move some units but to really be significant it needs it as an exclusive.  Having the game while it's still on the 3DS doesn't really do much for the Vita.  MH4 would be the Vita's only significant killer app while it would just be ONE title in a long list of killer apps for the 3DS, it won't really help the Vita at all.

It doesn't matter. It will still be massive for it. Especially if it's not MH4 but MHP4th.

It not only help it, it'll most likely save it to "acceptable" levels, this time for real. Vita will not die in japan, but it needs MH, imo.

I always thought MHP4 would come to the Vita after they announced MH4 for 3DS. But with such a small userbase, I wonder if Capcom will even bother anymore.

Not to mention spreading the base over both consoles.  Would be best to just keep it on 3DS now that they moved the base over with MH3G.  But you never know...

when you think about how good the DC was this is really good news for Sony, the PSV might even outsell the N64 and gamecube

I think you missed the part when

PSV worldwide sales = DC japan ONLY sales.

PSV is better because it's selling worldwide unlike the dreamcast which mean Sony is winning over Sega, also the PSV is already the second best selling handheld this gen which isn't a small feat.

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

it had a good run.
