Forums - Sales - Sony lied to investors?

So its clear PS VIta shipped 400k out of 1.4m, so 1m for PSP. But here Sony say this

"Sales decreased 14.5% year-on-year (a 10% decrease on a constant currency basis) to 118.0 billion yen (1,493 million U.S. dollars).    This decrease was primarily due to lower sales of hardware and software of the PSP® (PlayStation Portable) and PlayStation®3, partially offset by the contribution of the PlayStation®Vita introduced from December 2011."

Its clear Sony is trying hard to hide horrible sales of Vita and for the first time they have started combined platform which doesnt make sense. So PS3 or PSP didnt ship less.

PSP 1m

PS3 2.1m total shipment 66 million as of 31th June.

Where do you get that PS3 number? It has nothing to do with Vita shipments.

Sony shipped 2.8m PS2/PS3 and its pretty clear at best Ps2 shipped 700k. More likely 500k so PS3 shipment last quarter were between 2.1-2.3m.

I understand why they did it with with the PSP and Vita (still don't like it), but is to stay consistent they did it with the PS2 and PS3. Which sucks because it makes the PS3 look like its doing badly, when it's not. And again, to stay consistent, they wouldn't break down the PS2/PS3 numbers because they know people would be demanding the break down of the Vita numbers.

I just don't see where do you infer it. Why at best PS2 shipped 700K?

Because PS2 shipment are on decline and quarter before that it just shipped 600k. So its unluckly it shipped over 1 million.

Personally, I'd have to take a look at last year's exact shipments before making my own guess, but maybe shanbcn already did.  I do know that the biggest shipment of PS2s was ~1 million and it was also for Q3 2011, the quarter right before the holiday season, so it makes sense that stores would want all those extra PS2s a couple of months before the holidays started.  Now taking in acccount that this would be for June (a full 5-6 months before shopping season), as well as this is the PS2's 12th year on the market, you can see why it would be strange for the PS2 to be selling ~1.1-1.3 million at this time of the year.
