Forums - Gaming - Best way to buy Western/localised Japanese games in Japan?

So I recently moved to Japan and I now have a job so I won't feel guilty when buying games.

I'm a beginner at Japanese so I want the English version of Japanese games (at least at the moment) and I don't want to get Western games months after they were released in the West.

So what's the best way to get Western and localised Japanese games?

I know there aren't that many users who live/have lived in Japan here so I hope some of you guys see this.

Seriously, not sure. You still have your PAL consoles? For many of the games you might be able to get the DD version, but that depends on the game. For me, for instance, i'm entertaining the option of going to teach English in Japan if i can't get work in this country, and Nintendo's pledge for day-one DD version of retail games means i would just need a big ol' harddrive.

Edit: and an American credit card. That would be the barrier to that plan, is that you'd need an in-region credit card or access to one to buy the downloadable versions.

Yes, PAL consoles, but I only have a PS3 and a PSV, those games are region free (actually, I'm not sure about Vita, I should check). I prefer retail copies, but I do have a British credit card with which to purchase digital games.

But actually I checked Play-Asia out of curiosity and I think they ship to Japan, because the price appears in yen! Though they didn't have one of the games I checked. I might resort to that if there are no better options.

Going off-topic in my own thread, but you should come to Japan to teach English, that's the job I got. It seems really cool (starting on Monday), the pay is good and my timetable is 100% flexible, any amount of hours and any hours I want. Also I basically have to talk to people, very practical and not too technical with grammar.

Hey I live here in Tokyo, send me a message later if you want.

Actually I usually order western games from amazon.com and just pay a bit extra shipping, other than that Akihabara in tokyo sells western games.

Great thanks! I'll check Amazon out. I'll get games in Akihabara if they release shortly after the Western launch.
