Forums - Gaming - They Bleed Pixels – Abandoning XBLA and releasing exclusively on Steam in order to reach a larger audience

Independent game developer Spooky Squid Games announced through a new trailer today that They Bleed Pixels has moved its development from Xbox Live Indie Games to Steam and will be announcing a release date soon. Originally planned for release last summer, the Spooky Squid team have spent an extra year polishing, creating additional levels and adding Steamworks features including leaderboards, achievements and cloud saving. Also shown in the trailer for the first time is a small preview of the game’s detailed motion comic cutscenes.

Miguel Sternberg, Creative Director at Spooky Squid Games said:

“We’re extremely happy to be bringing They Bleed Pixels to Steam. Throughout development other game developers and players have told us that the game really deserves to reach a larger audience and the move to PC and Steam will do just that. For those waiting for the release date we’re very close to being able to announce it. We’re just finishing up sound and squashing a few pesky bugs. It’s been a busy year and I think players will really appreciate the additional content and polish.”

Featuring a distinct visual style that blends pixel art with paper and ink textures, They Bleed Pixels is a singular mix of intense platforming and fierce beat-em-up action.  It tells the story of a young girl haunted by a mysterious book and her violent Lovecraftian nightmares.  The game features a surprisingly robust one button combat system and a mid-level save system that requires players to pull off stylish kills in order to earn and place checkpoints.

Whats that game where you play as a girl and you have to escape from hell and all sorts of horrible things happen. This reminds me of it. If this was about ten shades darker.

Never even heard of them..

There was something weird going on in the OP (a link to Digg that seemed to be following me however i scrolled) so I weeded it out.

On topic: I assumed this thread was going to be more about developers (plural) leaving XBLA and the other console-bound services, not a specific game.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I noticed that too. I kept trying to remove it, but I couldn't find it in the scrpt.
