Considering the past anti-competitive behaviour of all three companies, I doubt this would be a good outcome.

I suggested this a couple of years ago and CGI Quality jumped all up in my shit. Now, I'm opposed to the idea....out of fear.

I'd love to see this happen. This generation had been hell for me in choosing which HD console I should buy for.
As I type this, I'd actually rather not. Not because of the companies but the fanboy wars. That has been amusing to me. I'd rather see chaos on the internetzzz rather than everybody orgysize sing-along to Barney's "I Love You"

Sony + Nintendo Vs. Microsoft would be fine and an improvement from what we have now IMO. 

MS has the money/resources to ensure there's adequate competition so consumers aren't left paying for a $500 box + $80 games. No competition = no incentive to keep prices low.

Honestly it would be good to ease the casualities from the console war, but it might drive prices up too...

Really bad idea. Both for competitive reasons and for console sales/ revenue.

It's a pointless discussion as it will never happen. If he, and others, wants to work on only 1 platform, they should ditch consoles and develop for PC.

The thing with an open market is, is that other companies (Apple, Samsung, Google) could then hop in and fill the void.
