Forums - Website Topics - The saga of myself streamlining and retreating technically as a gamer continues...

So, I am observing my life, and the tough times, and myself trying to stay afloat, that I am doing the opposite the industry wants.

In the latest bit, I ended up running under financial pressure, so I ended up selling my PS3 (60 GB PS3 that played PS2 games) and picked up a used PS2 to play a bunch of retro arcade titles I have.  The PS3 was gathering dust.  Being real tight on money ended up meaning that I wasn't buying new stuff at all, well, not to any decent degree.  I end up finding myself going on YouTube to watch the endings to Mass Effect 3, Infamous, Uncharted 3, and others.

Things have been reduced to living in the past.  I won't say that maybe I don't miss some PS3 stuff I have had.  Not saying I played them, but didn't have them.  I had found that there isn't much of a reason to have more than one of the "HD Twins" either.  WiiU might be of interest though, the way the Wii is, as something different.  But I am looking at the big picture here, and seeing that life goes on.  I can be doing other things in my life, from the past, breaking this cycle of the new.  Not buying really anything out there that is just out and waiting.   And also question why I should be bothering to bloat so much.

And there was also the getting a cheap tablet instead of the latest handhelds and seeing that I actually get use out of it more than even my handhelds.  I will put some time into a tetris type game on my android tablet when I was to just spend a few minutes to distract myself.

So, the short of it is that life goes on and there is more to life than this cycle of gaming and forever getting new, and discovering the new actually has less variety than the new used to have.  But heck, you have some cool and memorable characters.  But gameplay?  I am getting a feeling no one really does anything new, but merely bases games on other games from the past, rather than what I think of with Crazy Taxi, where the guy wanted to base a game on being a cabbie.  Heck, Crazy Taxi may of been one of the last games built on experiences outside gaming... or not.
