Forums - Sony - Editorial: 3D Is Another Dead-End For Sony

I use 3D all the time on my PC, PS3, 360 and Sky on my projector to a 80" screen. It's awesome but you have to be careful to take proper rest breaks for your eyes so as not to induce headaches (which you should be doing anyway). If used on a good setup the 3D experience can add as much to a experience as surround sound in gaming. I don't think it's a dead end, I think to get the best out of it just requires better hardware than the PS3 or 360. Halo Anniversary is awesome in 3D and super smooth, it's a good look at what we can expect next generation. Minimum 720p 3D at 60fps please .

Sony's investment in 3D clearly had more to do with their TVs than with their games division.

What I do not understand in the article is that pretty much all Tv manufactures invested in 3D,but only Sony failed.

I don't see many 3DTVs from Samsung or LG being sold.

I like 3D and I watch movies in 3D if I can.
Imo games need better hw than the PS3 to actually look good in 3D as vsynch issues and aliasing really break the immersion/increase the eye strain. I've tried some on my ~mid tier PC aswell, but unfortunately the PC games I own have some nasty bugs in 3D, like flickering reflections, incorrect shadows and so on.

Maybe next gen we'll see some nice 3D in games.

Try Killzone 3 and Super Stardust HD, both have a very good 3D implementation.

Nah. More like Sony pushed it before the market was ready for it.

Just not there yet. Give it another 5 years.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I agree with this article. I think 3D is nothing but a pointless gimmick. I watched a couple of movies in 3D and just felt like it was a waste of money.

i never got use to 3d i still like watching my movies in 2d, its not like black and white vs color

i think the blu ray drive is another dead end at least for this gen as most all games fit on dvd and soon DD will make it obsolete

there are people who don't see the point in 5.1 sound either - 3D is just another method to increase immersion to those who appreciate it, nothing more, nothing less

personally I gladly pay 10€ more to have the same movie in 3D and pay 200€ more to have a TV set/monitor to be able to watch it.. compared to what audiophiles pay to heighten their experience that is a pretty small investment

I'll be glad when this second return of 3D dies off. I see absolutely no added value in it.

Signature goes here!

I got a 3DTV a few weeks ago, only tried Top Spin 4 in 3D though which was okay but not brilliant. Will try Motorstorm soon which should be a lot better. I don't think it'll ever become a defacto standard like HD has, until the glasses are gone, but itll continue to get more popular year on year. End of the day sooner or later every TV you can buy will have it included. It's already nearing a stage where it doesn't cost much more to get 3D in a TV...

Still waiting for a game to blow me away with 3D I guess, shame I've already done Uncharted 3 as that is supposed sexyyyyy. Might have to go for GOW:Ascension.

Motorstorm:Apocalypse in 3D - Wow!

Nearly blown away lol.
