I don't see why this needs to be it's own piece of software. xD

And you could do the same thing with a 3DS, Vita, Smartphone or Tablet so having multiple platforms could incentivise a dev to support it. And maybe a Metroid game where you scan the environment looking for puzzles. I can't think of any other real game use for this tech that wouldn't just be annoying after a few minutes. And even those uses would not really be something that would hold up over long periods I don't think. |
There interest in point-and-click type games on Wii existed, but only in the margins. So will it be with Wii U. Developers just want to make the same types of games across all platforms, so the U Pad will likely be limited to making the screen HUD-free in Wii U versions of major mulitplats.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Oh I don't expect traditionl devs to take advantage of the feature, that is why I mentioned P&C devs who are mostly little indie guys. There a quite a few who now work on tablet games which could basically use the same tech on those platforms. Nintendo seem to be pushing digital much stronger this gen as well, so that should encourage some of the indie devs to support the platform more even if it's just indie devs porting over augmented reality style P&C adventures. It won't be used in AAA multiplatform releases of course.
As for making HUDless games, that sounds good until you realise you have to take your eyes off the screen to see it. Which unless the game is designed for it is not something you want to do, I mean being able to see the information without inturupting your attention is the whole point of a HUD in the first place. I think most devs will put like full maps and/inventory screens on there, things that you would normaly have to bring up a menu for on other platforms.
