Forums - Gaming - Dead Space 2 better than the original? Lmfao

So I finally got around to getting Dead Space 2 and it's a love and hate relationship. I really think the story is nicely structured and focused but most of the game is trial and error versus the first game where you could almost always improvise. Dead Space 2 is a lot more annoying and frustrating than the first game from enemies spawning on you after being killed previously and loading up the most recent checkpoint to frustratingly small areas where it's hard to keep track of your surroundings and bad lag times where status freezing somehow misses the target when you're dead on. I've also activated any health packs before a finishing blow that would kill me but the annimation takes place before it heals me, I should be healed right on the spot. I also remember the first Dead Space game automatically used any health packs if you had them before you would be killed but maybe not.

I loved every level in the first Dead Space but 2 brings you back to same areas over and over and forces you to fight the same enemies over and over again. I don't even think there is any new gun that really stands out. I'm on chapter 12 and I've tried out all of them that are available to me thus far and still it's the Plasma Cutter, Pulse Rifle or Flamethrower I usually only use. From review critics to fans of the series I've heard quite a few people somehow think the second game is a step up and it's not, it's actually a step back in a lot of ways.

So I gotta ask, please don't tell me I'm one of the few who prefers the original(superior game)?

I dunno, while the first DS was good, overall I liked DS2 alot more. Dead Space is one of the few games that feels like an experience compared to most other video games.

I don't know why people tell me to get a life. I'm a gamer, I have lots of lives!

Hmmm... I felt DS2 was the better game.

I don't have an explanation why. But I know I enjoyed it more.

I think DS1 had better parts to it, and likewise DS2 has better parts to it.

I thought DS1 felt tighter in the sense, the game was about a desperate escape; in contrast DS2 was about pursuing a mission i cant really even remember. and then at the end we find something out that means there will be an inevitable sequel. but it was still better than DS1 in some respects.

but those space jumps in DS2 were just plain awesome!!

I loved the second one more because you just couldnt predict where the enemies would come out from unlike the first one after playing couple of hours. Also, the new suit is just plain badass.

Dead Space 2 is clearly better than the first one. In the first dead space we kept on walking around in the same level going back for something then coming back again for something else. In dead space 2 the levels aren't that lazily built. There is a lot more cheapness in the game but because of the checkpoints it gets cancelled out, at least I think it does, not to mention that after a while you will be expecting cheapness everywhere.

There are some good weapons in this game, I really like the javelin gun, it's really sweet, also the the sniper gun whose name I forgot. (edit : the one in which we zoom)

The Zero-G sections in this game is better than the previous one by far. It's actually enjoyable, unlike in dead space 1 where it got boring. And repetitive.

However the game does have it's minuses, the game gets too repetitive in some parts. The ending dragged on like anything, the cheapness, especially the stalkers, are a huge pain, imo it shouldn't have been there in this game. Everything else is better in this game, the level design, the voice acting, your character's face can be seen now, the graphics are cooler, new characters that are not just enemies, the actual ending.

It still not as good as it could have been. And maybe too few of those nodes available in a single level.

Dead Space 2 is one of the few sequels that I like better than the original. It just felt more thrilling not knowing where I was going next where as in Dead Space it was just a constant "I completed the main objective for this level. Great, now I gotta go all the way back".

I liked both DS1 and DS2 equally I think they're both great games :)

This is a very convincing OP.

...

Play Dead Space 2 on Hardcore. It's one of the greatest available experiences this entire gaming generation has to offer.

I prefer Dead Space 2, while I loved the original, the sequel just felt more polished and fluent, which is important too me, also the Javelin Gun is just plain out awesome.
