I am finally getting round to making a hype thread for this game.
"So what is X-Com and why should I be hyped for XCOM?" I hear you ask.

X-Com is a classic stratergy franchise that is famous for its hardcore mix of a turn based tactical battle system combined with a real time strategy overview. Unfortunately there was only one really great entry in the franchise the original UFO: Enemy Unknown/X-COM: UFO Defense which has a GameRankings score of 93.60%, it was also IGNs 2000 and 2007 best PC game of all time. Truely one of the greatest games of all time IMO, with a hardcore cult following.

So Now that is out of the way I hear you asking "what the hell is this new game and why should I be excited?" Well I'm getting to that you impatient swine. So XCOM: Enemy Unknown (not to be confused with XCOM the FPS that no one wants) is a spiritual successor that is being developed by Firaxis games (makers of the Civilisation series) and seeks to recapture some of the magic of the original game and bring it to a modern audience. So why think that they will succeed where many others have failed? Well first off it's Firaxis and they have been working on the game for several years and also the game's director is a super fan of the original game.

The game will feature many of the core elements of the original game, turn based tactical battles, strategic overview, permadeath, base building and also light diplomacy elements. But re-imagined (most likely "dumbed down") for a modern audience. With smaller teams, time units replaced with a move and shoot/move really far mechanic, removal of ammo and inventory management, one central base (with possibly outposts), and the addition of more RPG mechanics with classes and skill trees (vs the gain general skills over time and can use any equipment of the original). Also new are cinematic camera angles and kill cams, a formalised cover system, and more involved and personalised base and personal management.
There will also be a multiplayer component where you will be able to pick from any units you want (with a mutually agreed point limit for balance) including all the alien types (you can mix and match) then duke it out online.

The game is due to release October 9, 2012 in the USA and October 12, 2012 everywhere else, on Windows PC, PS3 and X360. And there is a demo out now if you want to try before you buy. But read this article if you do play it http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2012/09/25/some-things-you-should-know-about-the-xcom-demo/#more-125588.

Now enough of my ramblings go see what pros who have played the games and also promotional materials to get you hyped.
