Forums - Sales - trying to figure out digital numbers: Gravity Rush

Did you buy Gravity Rush digital or retail?

Digital 25 33.78%

Retail 48 64.86%

Total:73

I've calculated about 80k total sales in America. That means around 15k are digital, roughly 20%.

Do you know how many ratings it has?

PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

Ok, so which option do I choose? I bought a retail copy (Asian Chinese+English Version) then sold it. Then I got it on PSN from the US PSN Store.

i guess it's the best not to vote for you, because you'd have to choose both options. That would have the same impact to the statistic like if you don't vote either^^

must-have-list for platforms i don't own yet:

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

Awww.. :P

one first prediction after 19 votes (seems way too optimistic for me, for now):

digital 8 42%
retail 11 58%
sum 19
retail digital totals
us 36564 26592 63156
eu 23888 17373 41261
japan 80000 58181 138181
total 140452 102146 242598

WiiU: Donkey Kong

XBone: Dead Rising 3, Ryse

What I do to calculate digital sales is to look at other users trophies and see if they have played the game. This percent then gets multiplied by how many Vitas have been sold in America. This number minus tracked sales is digital sales. My sample size is too small though.

The down side to this is that this method doesn't take into account sales of used games and borrowing / swaping of games. One copy could change hands 2-3 or more times and these 2-3 or more people would have played/earned trophies for the game from just one retial copy.

Another thing you could consider is the sales of memory cards. People who bought 8-16 could be going all digitial to combination and 16-32 has a more likelyhood of going all digital. Too bad we don't have sales data on those.

Another thing to thing about is that, if true, digital versions on the Vita store are about $5 cheaper when compared to physical copies. It wouldn't be beyond the realm of posibility that a good number of vita owners are taking advantage of this.

Lastly, not all NA versions are sold in NA. Some copies find their way all the way here in Asia, not to mention there are a bunch of people, like me, who live in Asia but have NA/US PSN accounts for buying digital versions of games.

Edit: You might also like to separate by region. The distribution of retail vs digital in NA/US may be different in EU as well as in Japan/Asia since different environment, culture, perception, internet capabilities etc can affect the percentage of retail sales and digital sales.

There's a thread that follows digital sales. Basically you check the number of ratings the games gets on PSN (because only those who purchased the game can rate it) and multiply it by 20, because some companies disclosed digital sales and they could be compared to the number of ratings and they're usually around that figure.

The downside is that I think those who downloaded the demo can rate it, so it'd be more of a wild guess.

I know this thread, but the problem you've mentioned is something what destroys it's significance.

And there are some games you definitely want to rate, some others not. This is a problem for the method of this thread too, but i think it delivers a rough estimate which shouldn't be too false. This is just one more method, who knows, maybe both threads end up with several numbers for GR, so they confirm each other.

Would you be able to check if the US store does have Demo and full game as the same, as EU store doesn't? I can't check only have access to UK store.

I am german, sorry.

(lol, this sounds like a often said sentence.)

I checked it for you guys and as far as I can tell, the demo and full game ratings are combined. Looking at GR ratings count on the full game section and on the demo section shows the same number of ratings 5,561 as of right now.
