Forums - Gaming - How many total consoles will be sold this Generation(Wii+X360+PS3)?

RolStoppable said:

Soriku predicts that the 360 and PS3 combined will sell about 100m. I predict that the Wii will at least triple the combined sales of the 360 and PS3, in the worst case scenario this means 300m Wiis will be sold.

I like your style, let's be friends.

For me, my prediction would be like these:

The Wii - >200,000,000

360 - <40,000,000

PS3 - <40,000,000

Total: Around 280,000,000.

Wait what? I thought we are friends since quite some time.

Oh...yeah... of course

Edited my original post, I was giving too much credit to the other two.

Not to be rude but why isn't this thread in the Sales forum? Do mods have the ability to move a thread to the appropriate forum? Also this topic has been discussed ad nauseam.

135.000.000 Wii
105.000.000 PS3
55.000.000 Xbox360
=295.000.000

BTW
155.000.000 DS
65.000.000 PSP

@ RolStoppable )

I just wonder how Sorikus predictions for PS3 + 360 combined with your estimation of Wii = 3 x (PS3 + 360 ) equal "cold hard facts" .. rather seems to be (wishfull thinking)² to be honest.

You guys are way overestimating china's role in this generation.

but in 50 years or so, AND if china's gonvernment changes, China will be the biggest gaming market in the world.

right now, china has little effect on this current gaming market.

I have to agree with you there __O_o____, at least in part.  I'm living in central china the moment in an 'average' city, i.e. not Shanghai, Beijing, Shenzhen, Guangzhou and the like.  The average income in this part and much of China is in the order of 100-150 USD/month.  What's more all kids from the age of 12-16 go to school from 7am-8+pm, 6 days a week. There's simply not enough money or time to support a lot of gaming here at the moment.

If we just consider the richer cities, the average income is in the order of 500 USD/month and given the population just in the top 10 centres in China it's possible that it can have an effect on the world gaming market, but i still think it's going to take time for brand awareness and hence the gaming market to grow.

And that's not taking into consideration any affect the government may have on the development of the console market.

my 2 cents worth

No grand predictions, i'm just looking forward to playing some good games on my Wii.

So far it looks like industry is growing. Both the 360 and PS3 are almost certainly beating original Xbox/Gamecube sales, and even in the worst case scenario, there's no way the Wii will be far from the PS2's sales.

I expect one of the HD consoles to stay in the 30-40 million range, and the other to rise up to 40-60 million. Both might be able to coexist, but I think the competition for "big HD gaming machine everyone has" is too brutal for both to prosper. So far the US has been the only market where two consoles have achieved any great amount of success, although Europe might join the club.

The Wii is a real wild card, since sales are just barely over PS2 levels, and third parties haven't truly arrived yet in great numbers. It has the potential to do better than the NES, slightly better than the PS2, or way, way better than anything we've ever seen, but I think it'll be a while before anything can be said for certain. I'm fairly hopeful that we'll see another old stuff->NES, or SNES->PS1 type leap between generations.

All of you posters that think china is going to have an impact on gamings sales are not thinking straight, china is a poor country. In the Chinese capitol the average income is $4512 as of the end of 2006. This is in their major city. As you start to leave the major cities the average income is insanely low. While the top tier income in Beijing is 12,500 on average.

True it is a poor country, but a lot of people still find chance to play WoW, so they can obviously afford some things, launching the Wii for around 720 Yuan would probably be a success

Predictions:Sales of Wii Fit will surpass the combined sales of the Grand Theft Auto franchiseLifetime sales of Wii will surpass the combined sales of the entire Playstation family of consoles by 12/31/2015 Wii hardware sales will surpass the total hardware sales of the PS2 by 12/31/2010 Wii will have 50% marketshare or more by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  It was a little over 48% only)Wii will surpass 45 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2008 (I was wrong!!  Nintendo Financials showed it fell slightly short of 45 million shipped by end of 2008)Wii will surpass 80 Million in lifetime sales by the end of 2009 (I was wrong!! Wii didn't even get to 70 Million)
