Forums - Nintendo - Wii U continues to use Friend Codes

This is a horrible thread Mav. It's too soon to say what these codes will be. They could be strings of numbers like the Wii-3DS, or they could be letters and numbers up to the player's discretion, we just don't know.

Can you stop being so anti-Nintendo and think a little please?

Given the appearance of OctoG123 in the pre-E3 Nintendo Direct I suspect that we'll have numbers and letters up to the user's discretion.

Just posting news as I read them. I have a Wii, so drop the anti-Nintendo bull. I am dissappointed and pissed off at Nintendo and their E3 conference, they dropped the ball big time at trying to promote their new console(for the 2nd time in a row). Should I lie and say: wow nintendo's E3 conference was spectacular, tonnes of AAA exclusive launch titles to entice every type of gamer and a pletora of details regarding Nintendo Network?

In fariness though, on this site the sun literally shines out of Nintendo's arse and can do no wrong.

Nah, it just seems that way since this is one of the rare sites that actually has a somewhat even amount of Nintendo fans compared to other fans, whereas about 90% of other sites HD fans outnumber them by far.

As long as its similar to the 3DS friend code system then i have no problem with it.

Really?!!!
then im not buying it lol

Oh that's it.. No way in hell im buying a wiiU. fuck friend codes Seriously, WTF?

- IDC if its like the 3DS's one

The only horrible thing Nintendo did for it's online was that danmed WEP security connection for the DS - who in hell uses that shit, even in 2004-2005 when the DS launched. Not using WPA is the thing that made me use the DS online just a handful of times - literally.

I don't care much, don't like online very much, but other than that, all things they done are ok... not the better, but acceptable, like the 3DS and Wii. Nobody will die because of friend codes.

See, i'm on the opposite end. I hate WPA, especially WPA Enterprise, which is what my college used. The closest thing to malware in the form of internet. I was quite fine with WEP, and remain so.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

I really don't understand much of which one is more secure than the other, but every wi-fi connection I've seen is WPA (and now WPA2)

So Nintendo could have at least accepted both... they actually did, but only for DSi games, very few compared to the rest. I believe I've only downloaded some maps on Mario vs Donkey Kong using the DS online, just that.

But like I said, not REALLY a problem, as I don't like online much.

Er, wow. Is it bad that I've had a DS since launch and had no idea it had online capability all this time? Maybe I'm just forgetting..

You're being silly and unrealistic.  Need to mute 32 people?  DOn't be stupid, never happen.  Even if needed to, 'Mute All' in 2 seconds.  Noting to do with being lazy, to do with being practical, and friend codes aren't, and you know it, hence inventing up crappy exuses.

Well yes, the needing to mute everyone bit was meant as a joke.

The fact is this.

There are some miniscule things that are objectively better about XBL than the 3DS friend system (for example, having customised names instead of pre chosen names)

There are some major things that I find subjectively better about the 3DS online (such as better insulating me from people I don't want to hear from)

I understand that you consider that last bit to either not be an advantage, or to be a disadvantage.

But you do NOT get to tell me what I do and do not like, ok?

Let me make it perfectly clear. I will be a (slightly) happier person, if Nintendo announces that online will mimic the 3DS, than I would be if it mimiced XBL. You would not be, and I do not expect you to be, but you must accept that lots of people do not have the same preferences as you.
