Forums - Gaming - The Greatest Console Rivalry of All Time

The greatest console rivalry was:

Nes vs. Master System 14 2.66%

Intellivision vs. Atari 2600 2 0.38%

PSP vs DS 8 1.52%

Super Nes vs. Sega Genesis 271 51.52%

Playstation vs. N64 29 5.51%

Xbox 360 vs. Playstation 3 145 27.57%

Nintendo 64 vs. Playstation 1 13 2.47%

Other (please specify) 4 0.76%

Gameboy vs. The World 16 3.04%

I don't know my video ga... 24 4.56%

Total:526

Based on sales alone and if not including the Wii I would say PS3 vs 360. It's back and forth and with each passing year the PS3 closes the worldwide sales gap.

Otherwise the MD vs SNES. Sega ate into Nintendo's dominant market share and though sales wise the SNES comfortably won in the end, it's worth bearing in mind near the end of that gen Sega stopped supporting the MD and all it's crappy add ons to concentrate on the Saturn while Nintendo continued to support the SNES and this helped to propel SNES sales further ahead of the MD.

I dont think there was any fanboyism at all last gen, --------------------->everyone <-------------- accepted PS2s superiority, GC and Xbox were secondary consoles in households. All this fanboy nonsense this gen started with the PS3 song and xbox fans saying "ps3 haz no gaemz".

Utterly false and you know it, PS2 was my secondary (Actually third) console in the house.

Sounds like you're just trying to find a excuse to blame Xbox fans for "starting the war", you can stop it now, no-one cares for your bait.

OT:

X360 vs PS3, simply because there's so many devices on which we're online 24/7.

I'd say Mega Drive VS SNES was more of a "rivalry": a match of 2 consoles with very different libraries.
X360 and Ps3 are almost the same console, except for a limited number of first-party exclusives.

Hahaha. A killed dog and fanboy massacres.

I was ignorant towards SNES and Sega back then, must have been playing on the C64 or something. So for me it's easily X360 versus PS3. That's been a very nasty and painful war.

Xbox vs. Playstation 2:  As far as sales were concerned, this battle was over before it even started.  The PS2 sold about 10 million consoles in its first year (If I remember correctly.  Can't figure out how to use VGChartz these days).  That's over a third of the competitions entire life span sold before they even hit the market.  Still, the Xbox had a very vocal fanbase that boasted getting a far superior version of many of the PS2's best games.  I was once in a bar in Florida where a fight broke out because somebody said, "Killzone is going to be a Halo Killer."  The event was later dubbed the fanboy massacre of 2004.

HA!  Sales superiority, maybe.  GC and Xbox were better consoles, though.  There was fanboyism last gen, it was just limited in scope because, aside from the Dreamcast, the PS2 came out first, established a huge lead, and kept it without question, leaving little room for hope or fear from the fanbases regarding an upset.

My advice to fanboys: Brag about stuff that's true, not about stuff that's false. Predict stuff that's likely, not stuff that's unlikely. You will be happier, and we will be happier.

I have the most epic death scene ever in VGChartz Mafia.  Thanks WordsofWisdom!

Super NES vs Genesis.....I guess aminly the main console after the genesis (dreamcast) died and it was like the biggest final battle. No one is going to remember 360 vs PS3, unless if the neXtbox of PS4 failike the dream case, then I guess people will remmeber the final battle of those 2 console which is the 360 vs ps3.

Let's be honest, it was different back then, nowadays you can even walk up to some girls and asked them if they watched e3, back then... hell no.

That doesn't mean anything, though. The Genesis vs. SNES rivalry was part of the advertising, for God's sake. Sega does what Nintendon't!?

Sega does

What Nintendon't.
