IMO, if you want to make games which involve killing people, at least provide different ways to kill them in different games. (i.e. Make a healthy mix of shooters and slashers, the latter is especially good for adventure games)

The real reason.
I heard a movie write once say that for any story to be believable, you can really only expect the audience to believe one totally unbelievable condition. So if you make a movie where someone goes back in time, you have to make the rest of the story fairly realistic. People’s minds can get past one dose of disconnection to reality.

The best games are the ones you can submerge yourself into, and forget you are playing a game. The trick however, is almost every aspect of a game is a disconnection from what can be real. A human can’t really make that jump, or get shot 10 times and still fight. A human cannot carry a 130 pound gun, and run full speed. There are a lot of things in video games that make them more fun, but remove realism.

The more realism you can get back into a game, the closer you can get to people believing it. Fighting men is a dose of reality. Fighting aliens, well, is just another aspect that one must overcome to feel like they are in the game, and not just playing it.

Lets be honest Americans love to shoot things because their American, it's in their blood, that's why FPS do so well in America, I can't think of any other reason apart from that, well their's also the fact their fun to play but that's beside the point. XD

Also a tune comes to mind, "America fuck yeah...", god that movie was funny. LOLZ

Ya also we where the first to make a FPS and it grew from there. I think it was called Catacombs 3d, but you didn't shoot people in the face on that one. It's kinda like our thing and it got more and more detailed and involved in how we shoot different body parts. I really enjoy having rag doll effects in game. Standing over a body and keep plugging shots to forehead and seeing them flop all over the place. I think this is what everybody wants to hear about in this thread?

It's like this: Aliens watch us play video games. I know they do. Now, if they see us killing other aliens, and nothing else, they're going to assume we are a threat. How long do you think we'll last against an invasion with superior alien technology (wich is slightly less advanced than the PS4)? I say kill humans, and keep on killing humans. You don't want to deal with the reprecussions.

Have you been watching Joe Dante's Explorers?

I don't think its people like shooting people better than aliens, i think its more that a lot of the well made games just happen to be people shooting people like as you said CoD, GTA, MoH. Although there are great shooters that are aliens like Halo, GoW, and R:FOM, there probably aren't as many as the people shooters.

My favourite is Killzone so its hard to say what I'm killing. They used to be people but they were changed by the rough climate over on Helghan so they've almost become aliens! lol I don't know what I'm really killing. I love any shooter, doesn't matter what I'm killing.

because we're all afraid of each other and usually quite frustrated with other people. It releases rage without any harm to anyone
