Forums - Gaming - What's more likely, Nintendo going third party or Sony selling off their gaming division?

So, Nintendo going third party or Sony selling off their gaming division?

Nintendo going third party 39 15.42%

Sony selling off their gaming division 153 60.47%

Sega makes a triumphant r... 61 24.11%

Total:253

SCE is one of the few profitable departements Sony has right now. Why would they sell of something profitable, they'll only bleed more afterwards.

THQ will buy Sony and Nintendo. What do you say to that?

That sounds much more likely than Nintendo going down.

I'm having a hard time to see why Sony would sell their Game department - but I also have an even harder time seeing Nintendo going 3rd party!

However, Nintendo could stop making handhelds in the future, releasing their games on iOS or Android - that would make them 3rd party, wouldn't it??

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Nintendo

Only because Sony will go bankrupt before selling their games division. Their new head of the company was the CEO of gaming who turned the PS3 around. Now gaming is one of Sony's three pillars and is the only thing making them money.

Sony's is fairly likely if they succumb to bankruptcy, just that the PlayStation would survive the sale of the PS division, whether as an independent entity or an asset to some other company.

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

Sony will NEVER give up the PLAYSTAYTION and games division. It is currently the strongest entity that Sony has. Sony makes and does so much, that there are tons of other things they could close, sell, or shrink. Games would be the very last thing Sony would allow to be touched.  Also, as old and storied as Sony is in Japan, the japanese government would never let Sony just go under without multiple bailouts......kinda like America did for the Car industry, because Sony has massive japanese employment.

Nintendo On the other hand, Nintendo isn't as large as Sony nor are they as diversified. One bad expensive console (WII U), and Nin could easily quit making home consoles and stick with DS portables, and still make AAA games for other consoles

The latter's way more likely

Nintendo doesn't make loss-leading consoles like MS and Sony, so that's not likely at all.

Even at their low points with N64 and GC they were making money at launch.

Neither, they would prefer to just disappear. It's an honor/Japanese thing.

Neither one are going to happen. Sony needs the big revenue that comes in from the games and the downloads. Nintendo would rather close up shop than let their games show up on someone else's hardware.

I doubt either will happen any time soon. Sony's gaming division is one of the few areas they are making money, and Nintendo will not go third party until they can't make it in the hardware business anymore.
