Even if they won't repeat PS3's horrible mistake pricing PS4 $599, at $299-349 or even $399 for the entry level model it will be quite expensive for most people at least for the first 3 years, so it will make sense to keep on selling PS3 for a few years, just like Sony did with PS2. PS3 won't last 12 or more years total life and 6 after next gen launch like PS2, but 3 years after PS4 launch, for a total of 10 years should be feasible. Obviously it would be smart to release a true Slim version, not only to save production, shipping and warehousing costs, but also because retailers will like its package to be smaller when it will be bargain priced, shelf space doesn't come for free.
