Wii U will feature two versions of the Home screen

During today's Nintendo Direct event, Satoru Iwata spent some time discussing the features of the Wii U home screen.

It appears the main home menu view, which includes all the Mii characters and game application tiles, is not the only view players have to navigate the system menu. A simplified Wii-style menu showing games and other in-built apps will be displayed on the screen of the Wii U GamePad.

It appears these two different viewpoints can also be flipped between the TV and the GamePad.

Great to hear. I was appalled with such disgust seeing the Home Screen with Mii's I wouldn't care about. Curse the Mii's with Japanese characters as their name beating me at Mario Kart each and every single time. Death to Blue Shells.

Uh oh. Xbox has the "Smart Glass". But if you want to buy an xbox AND a tablet, you're talking big bucks. The Wii U is two in one for probably around $300. I guess we may know the prices later...

I've just watched the Microsoft show... And I'm so un-hyped right now you wouldn't believe it!!!

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

God that Microsoft show was awful. Better than last year, but that's not saying much. Literally no surprises. I hope Sony's is better or Nintendo won E3 already.

Halo 4 looks great. I kinda got a Metroid vibe off it.

That's about the only highlight for me during Microsoft's E3 conference.

I mean, Black Ops 2 is your finale? Come on man!

Anywho, the Hype Train is up to date. ^_^

Nintendo pre-E3 shows makes all sense now, what with Xbox Smart Glass and all. It's deliberate. It also helped that Microsoft managed the program really bad. It should have went like this: Address Kinect games, concert, core games with Kinect, multiplat, and finally end it with Halo 4.
Halo 4 at around the beginning gave a false hope of a 'nice surprise' at the end.

is there any place I can watch the good parts of microsoft's conference?

Until you've played it, every game is a system seller!

Microsoft didn't really provide any real examples on how it helps gameplay. I'm not sure if devs are really going to use it. Wii U seems more helpful and can do more than what is already announced. Can you play the game and use the extra screen at the same time? The Halo demo showed that you have pause your game to use the app, plus how can you play an Xbox game on a smartphone? This is just my thoughts and concerns on the app. For other uses such as movies, it can definetly be useful, but they need to give more information.

@ryan I felt underwhelmed by Resi 6(too many QTEs) and didn't find Tomb Raider much different from Uncharted. I didn't watch the Halo gameplay.

Forget about how much it will cost to buy and Xbox and a tablet (or phone) for a moment.   Think about all the people that already have an Xbox 360 and one of the following:

iPhone
iPad
Kindle Fire
Other Android Tablet
Android Phone
Windows Phone

Then add in the people that already have an Xbox 360 and will be purchasing a Windows 8 device or any of those above devices before the Wii U launches. You then discover that the Wii U is the platform that has a much smaller market.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.
