Forums - Sales - UK charts: Max Payne 3 (PS3+X360) pips Diablo III to number one

Max Payne 3 has beaten Diablo III to the number one spot in this week’s UK charts.

The gap between the two games was by 8,000 units.

It’s the first number one for the Payne series, making a return eight-and-a-half years after the Remedy-developed Max Payne 2, with MP3 outselling MP2 by a figure of 10-1. It’s also the biggest launch of this year so far, beating Mass Effect 3.

On a platform breakdown, a majority of sales for Max went to Xbox 360 at 58%, while the remaining 42% are on PS3. The PC version releases next Friday in the UK.

The Blizzard RPG will have to settle for second behind the Rockstar shooter, despite becoming the 12th biggest PC launch in the UK ever and selling more than the past two Football Manager games.

Last week’s number one Sniper Elite V2 falls to four behind FIFA Street, while FIFA 12 rounds off the top five.

Full top ten for the week ending May 19 is below. Last week’s data is here.

  • 1 – Max Payne 3
  • 2 – Diablo III
  • 3 – FIFA Street
  • 4 – Sniper Elite V2

  • 6 – Prototype 2

so in other words including digital Diablo III outsold Max Payne 3 on PS3/360 combined. Add in the no console cert costs and Diablo 3 likely made a lot more money, especially as digital copies are only brought direct from Blizzard so they get 100% of the price.

Check out my hype threads: Cyberpunk, and The Witcher 3!

did anyone think D3:Error37 can't beat MP3?
seriously i'm even surprised MP3 beat D3 in retail box ver

With the hype surrounding D3.. I am surprised I didn't buy it! Even though I don't have anywhere near the specs to play it!

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I'm surprised MP3 beat D3, but here cometh the OP spinning.

Negative feeling out there for d1 though

Around the Network

expected diablo to outsell max payne

The difference is that who bought MP3 is enjoying it, D3 players instead.. are just cursing?

Anyway, if the concept of hack 'n slash fun for PC players is keeping clicking a mouse they shouldn't wonder if many of us consider classic PC gaming as retarded.

Not really in this case, Diablo 3 was cheaper for the Physical product than it was on steam. just like Mass effect 3 and Origin. And there was some very beneficial trade ins at Game for Diablo 3.

PSP Lifetime more than PSV+3DS Lifetime.

ITs a PC game download sales will of been massive, reguardless of beeing a tenner more expensive.

Dont forget this is a blizzard title, and millions would of wanted it predownlaoded ready to go at midnight, not to mention, all the people that got a copy for free for subbing to WoW for a year.

Every month charts for retail are showing us less and less of the real picture. Just look at the UK Music industry where 90% of sales are now from download, its obviosuly not that high for games, but i bet its higher than anyone realises.
