Wow, now this is really shocking. We knew that Alan Wake’s American Nightmare would hit PC and it was pretty much a given since we noticed its entry on Steam’s registry a while ago. However, Remedy has not made any official announcement yet and today, a Steam page for American Nightmare has appeared out of nowhere. Not only that, but the PC version of Alan Wake’s American Nightmare is available for pre-order as we speak and comes with a 10% discount. Just, wow.
According to the game’s description, in this brand new standalone experience, Alan Wake fights the herald of darkness, the evil Mr. Scratch! A thrilling new storyline, hordes of creepy enemies, serious firepower and beautiful Arizona locations, combined with a fun and challenging new game mode make this a must for Alan Wake veterans, and the perfect jumping on point for new players!

I Haven't even got the XBLA O.o, I must be slacking...

I wonder what they kind of agreement they have with Microsoft for this one, seems awfully close to XBLA release for Microsoft to just throw them a freebie on this one.

It made enough sense for the original due to the time between the 360 and PC version there was.

Considering the XBLA and PC versions are releasing on the 22 of the month I am guessing 3 months lol, that or no exclusive window and it just took 3 months to port.

I mean I don't think this is really going to hurt MS in any way. And the added word of mouth and publicity will probably boost XBLA sales if anything.

I see your point, but not quite what I meant.

I meant it more along the lines of: "Maybe Remedy has agreed to keep Alan Wake console exclusive if they can release PC versions. Or maybe Microsoft is getting a monetary share."

While you could very well be right that they just had a 3 month exclusivity window, it would make sense for Remedy to port it to PSN if they had for reign over the franchise. It shouldn't be "that hard".

I suppose we'll never know though

From what Remedy said about Alan Wake when it fisrt came to PC they went to MS and asked if they could put it out on PC and they said ok. So I would guess that as the publisher MS has the power to vito any ports if they wanted, tho whether that is a legal obligation or Remedy just not wanting to get on their bad side IDK. But as Remedy still own the Alan Wake IP I am not sure if that applies to games past the first.

But I don't think they get a cut from the sales on PC as Remedy are self publishing via digital and the retail version is destributed via Nordic Games, MS do publish games on PC so if MS were getting a cut I think they would probably at the very least say that it has to be GFWL.

I do know that MS usally insist on on games released as part of XBLA premotions have a window of exclusivity but varies from game to game (big publishers can write their own agreements), for example Super Meat Boy had to be delayed by a month on PC to be part of the GameFeast 2010 (and couldn't be released on PSN due to publishing agreements with MS and Nintendo tho the Wii version was eventually caned anyway) which was one of the reasons Team Meat bitch about XBLA.

I would say when MS published the game for XBLA and put it in the House Party premotion the probably had to agree not to release it on PSN. Tho there is no real way to know for sure unless someone from Remedy says, which might happen if they are asked, they have given details on the situation before.
