Forums - Gaming - Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 set in the FUTURE - Site goes live, confirms release date, '21st Century Cold War' setting

Halo 4 comes out the week before!

OT: Looks fucking awesome! This game's setting will distinguish itself not only from Black OPs but from Modern Warfare as well. Should be the most unique COD game to date.(at least in terms of settings) Can't wait for the trailer tonight. I'll catch it online since I don't watch basketball..

Well the graphics look exactly the same. Guess I couldn't expect them to improve on something.

It's still on PS3/360........

You can't improve the graphics on the game without sacrificing many features such as 4-player split screen and # of online players.

I don't play Call of Duty for its graphics, I play it for its addicting multiplayer just like the 25million other people out there.

Wow I didn't expect this. If they keep the Black Ops feel as opposed to MW (and yes there is a difference) but set it in this future setting, then I am on board.

The whole "future" setting could give them some leeway with creating cool new weapons/perks/killstreaks without having to be constrained by current or past military technology.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

I might, and I have to stress the word might buy this, but only because Treyarch might actually make something decent out of this unlike IW.

Only if it's good though, and I have my doubts about that.

If it's so addicting, why not play the same game all the time instead of buying a new one each year?

Because with every game there are 15 new maps, tons of new weapons, new killstreaks, new campaign, new co-op game modes (zombies from treyarch, survival+spec ops from infinity ward), new multiplayer game modes (Wager matches from Treyarch, kill confirmed, drop zone, infected, team defender from infinity ward), balance changes to the game, etc, etc. All this on top of all the classic modes we already have come to expect from COD. What else do you want from a sequel exactly?

I really like the near future setting of Black Ops 2, its not all out Halo future but rather a realistically forseeable future, so the weapons, killstreaks, etc should be very interesting. Plus it gives Treyarch some room to make some fun new experimental stuff. And as always, zombies from Treyarch is going to rock the boat HARD. Can't wait for the reveal.

Have they confirmed if they're implementing new game play mechanics?

Just a trailer of the single player campaign, I see it's futuristic, but that doesn't confirm any new mechanics. E3 should though.

This is interesting. It might be a clever move or the begining of the end for COD supremacy along the years.

Lol. At least you guys will be shooting dudes in brown environments in the future this time.
