Even if he's telling the truth (especially if he's telling the truth), IMO you should use your investigation ability.  Ninpie protects you tonight, tomorrow you know if someone is mafia or not. 

That, as opposed to you protect Ninpie one night, someone else dies, and you still don't know anything new.

Well considering that his plan leaves you undefended tonight. Putting scum on their toes knowing that it might or might not happen isn't so bad. It's just one plan keeps the two of you around longer.
