I don't think they're actually work on an MMO.
BUT, if they were to consider something like this, I'd love to see some sort of MMO-like interface for PS4 that integrated LBP1/2 and LBP Karting.
For example, you could be walking around a town as Sackboy, meet up with some friends, head back to your pod, then go platforming or racing or do whatever.
