... and Japan still is a major market on the level of NA and Europe to you?

Halo 4 comes out and suddenly the numbers matter to Xbox gamers. The Last of Us and/or God of War 4 gets less sales than Halo 4 and Xbox gamers laugh at pitiful Playstation exclusives. PS3 gamers say numbers don't matter and that their game(s) is/are better than Halo. PS3 sales turn out good and Sony gamers brag about better WW numbers than Xbox. Xbox gamers say Sony already lost and that numbers don't matter anymore.

You guys are just saying what is convenient every. single. time.

360 had all these advantages this gen while ps3 had all the disadvantages.

to be fair the PS3 still had and has the advantage "Japan" over the 360

true but the 360 advantage in North America outweighs PS3's advantage in Japan :)

RROD?  Subscription for LIVE

the 360 is more expensive than the PS3 if you want to play online... always has been.

yea but the 360 has sold like 12 million more than ps3 in North America

Ps3 has sold like 5-6 million more than 360 in Japan

^^ like i said before, the 360 advantage in North America outweighs the PS3's advantage in Japan

Its how those advantages come about that interests me.  The 360 is utterly irrelevant in Japan (we can argue about the reasons - but we dont need to go there) whereas the PS3 has a major presence in the US.

Effectively the 360 gets all of its sales from 2 markets, the PS3 from 3.

true, but 360 still made up for its inexistance in Japan with America

the 360 failed at its attempt to take the japanese market and Sony failed at its attempt to take the NA market

PS3 launched at a ridiculously high price within a recession here and really did not deliver on its online portion which was obviously like the main focus in American gaming

in order for the XBOX to do good in Japan they would need to get the top games that Japanese people play. Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest would be the only way to take the Japanese market. It would be hard because those games are already big on PS consoles over there so the best thing they could do is get a deal to launch 6-12 months earlier than the competition OR get timed dlc so every body would buy the game on there console(which was pretty much what they did with a lot of games to make sure people bought it on their console).

of course it didnt happen because Sony caught on to that strategy that Microsoft was doing and made a deal with Square to have FF13 release a year earlier in that region on their console. Square also took forever to finish the game so MS couldn't make any deals with them earlier in the gen with FF

Ah the ps defence force! I think it took the ps3 quite long considering the superior brand name and ps2 dominance... Who should have thougt this 7years ago. But in the end it doens't matter... Only the true fanboys kick on this sort of gap philosophy... What matters is that both consoles were immensely popular and got awsome games ;) (coming from a big xboxfan... I just don't care about sale places... I only care about the games...

Yup, you say that now that the Xbox 360 is close to getting kicked to 3rd place.
Funny how you say "ah the ps defence force!" and "only fanboys care' when you yourself are part of the MDF and a fanboy yourself.

Funny how you say I'm part of the MDF since I even haven"t posted 300 times in 2years. Tells me alot about you...You should take it easy with those rage coments.

Its the second biggest market in pure numbers... so you cant ignore it... yes its diminishing but it still puts up some large numbers that affect the global view.

It will become less relevant and that can only suit MS next gen if they can continue to make strides in Europe.

so now you are going by market = country instead of region ...

I certainly didn't ignore Japan as I was the one who brought up that PS3 has that advantage for all that it's worth, but I feel with your "360 = 2 markets, PS3 = 3" stuff you went back to this:

Sony is very arrogant! I remeber them saying something to the effect of, we'll build PS3, when it come it comes, and at whatever price, and consumers will still buy it! That same arrogance is also killing the Vita. With that arrogance they will always be last.

PS1 and PS2 beg to differ. They were arrogant then, even more so than with PS3.

I disagree. For with PS1 it was Nintendo's arrogance that let Sony in the door, and Nintendo's arrogance continued during the days of the PS2. Sony then became king of the hill and let their success get to their head, now they are paying for their arrogance I think. I think arrogance comes with being at the top of the games industry.

I disagree. For with PS1 it was Nintendo's arrogance that let Sony in the door

what exactly do you mean by this? the only thing i remember about Nintendo back in the 5th gen was the them using cartridges

and even if they went with CDS,ps1 would have still dominated it because 64 was still looked at as a kids console

and Nintendo's arrogance continued during the days of the PS2

please elaborate on what you mean by Nintendo's arrogance in the 6th generation..

I disagree. For with PS1 it was Nintendo's arrogance that let Sony in the door

I think what it meant was that Ps1 came from a failed deal reached by Nintendo and Sony for the SNES.

This failed deal caused sony to make their console the Ps1 which gave birth to the great Playstation.

(Atleast is used to be great)

i almost forgot about that

but it makes it look even worse on Nintendo's part because Nintendo knew what Sony was about before ANYBODY

i wouldn't even call that arrogance. I would just say that Nintendo wasn't ready for the competition that Sony would bring. The 6th generation further proved it.

You realize that is only because of hwo equal the consoles are correct?

Exactly. That's one of the reasons why they're recieving less 3rd party exclusive support. But you were saying that the PS3 was getting more exclusives from 3rd parties.

But he is correct the PS3 is getting a lot of exclusives lately. You want me to give you a list?

Namcobandai is giving a lot fo PS3 exlcusives lately and Sega with Yakuza series exclusives.  Well since you included Valkyria Chronicles then:

NiS games, Atelier series, Neptunia series, Ar Tonelico way of Samurai 4 and Trinity Zill o Ill.

its good to see a console with as much first party support as the PS3 doing well, there are times when Microsoft leaves periods for third parties to fill in for quite some time. at this point though, besides bragging rights, there isn't much else being second place will get you, developers aren't going to start flocking over to one console over the other, and with next gen coming fairly soon, this gen will slowly grind to a halt

OMG!! I see alot of immature people here. I'm a fanboy of games, not systems. That's why I own all three systems. Just remember these companies do not care about us in any way other than our cash. Why are people treating them like family members lmfao. Why don't we all start having game vs game threads instead of System Wars that in the big picture don't really matter.

Wait what. People are now celebrating a that the gap has shrunk below 2 million, after 6/7 years? What the fuck? Every little victory I suppose.

Disconnect and self destruct, one bullet a time.

I say the PS3 will surpass the 360 in worldwide sales in Q3 2013 and then lose the lead again just slightly due to the 360 performing better in the Holidays. By the beginning of 2014 I expect them to be at a statistical tie and the PS3 will overtake the 360 for good in Q1 2014.

To all those yabbering about which side did the bigger accomplishment this gen I would say their about the same. Both of them had complete screw-ups at the beginning of the gen. The PS3 had it's ridiculous price and launching way later (then again launching later doesn't mean squat as is obvious from the Wii) and the 360 had the horrible debacle known as RROD and being a complete failure in Japan (probably mostly due to RROD). And both had good moments where they shined such as brand name, extremely strong exclusive line-up, slim, Blu-ray and to a much lesser extent, Move for the PS3. Whereas the 360 had the one year head start, Kinect (which single-handily kept it in second place), the slim redesign and to a much lesser extent, all of those special edition 360's.

i knew i liked you for some reason, but i disagree with only one part. PS3 will take and keep the lead in 2013, but only by a small margin.

both are reasonable though right?

all 3 screwed up, but 1st place screwed up less.

Yeah I can honestly see it going either way. I just believe that the 360 will pull ahead of the PS3 by the end of the year 2013 because it usually does better during the holidays. However the gap may just already be large enough by the Holiday season 2013 that it might not be able to take back the lead.

well we both see it possibly going both ways so we'll just agree lol.
