Their existence is fine, they just need to make it easier to get to the content listed in the title.

i like the edit thread feature for prediction threads though so you can keep it up to date

Ryan you paid no attention to what i said about news threads being different in that regard. look, some op's look at it differently, and that's always going to be the case. admittedly when i suggested it to you and MUGEN, i was to sure how it would work, but it seems to be working well for me at this point.
know when a thread is at it's end. hell even i know i can't continue to update the threads listed in my sig regardless of how well i make everything available. at some point, i'm going to have to let them die.
you were not prepared to do the ninty news thread from the start, and admittedly, i wouldn't even embark on that journey. i applaud you for doing so when you did, but you were not prepared for that undertaking and i doubt MUGEN was either, but MUGEN'S changes made the thread better, allthough all the content is scattered throughout the thread.
i had planed to personally group all the content throughout the thread in one post and post it in my sig, and as more info became available i'd edit the thread with that info. it's not hard, it's just allot of work, and when you're the type that thinks it's to much, then that's when you should reconsider if you truly want to make a massive thread
it's as easy as how many post do i think i'll need to group all this contents view post into one post to make space. when you do a thread on the scale of either news thread, you have to ask yourself, if you're ready for that kind of work, commitment, hassle, hell or whatever you want to call it. we all have solutions for everything going on on this site, but the question is, when you get the chance to do it, can you handle it?
my answer is, if you can't group all the content in one spot, or make it as easy to find as possible then you shouldn't bother taking on a project as big a as a news thread.
edit: you're right. old news is old news, so in a thread as big as a news thread you should know when to get rid of old news. the Vita thread is long overdo for an overhaul.
If people would just include a link to "View Post", it would be so much easier. The Vita and Nintendo news threads have interesting things in the title but I'll be damned if I can ever find any of them. I don't read these threads every day and they end up having 100 or more new posts! I see something about Gravity Daze DLC and 200 new posts since I last checked the thread and I'll never see what I'm looking for! Put a link to the post in the OP. That's all I'm asking.
That's the reason I avoid news threads. I'm not going to scroll threw a hundred posts to find what's stated in the title when it would take no more effort to just put it in the OP. It would probably take less effort since you won't have to scroll down to the bottom of the page to reply.

edit You all do know that it only takes 1 minute to scroll and find your story you want right? This is a joke thread? |
Nah. Save the OP and the post below the OP. The OP handles the nature of the thread while the second post has the content in the title. Whenever you edit the title, edit the second post. Post the info in the last post in the thread, too. That way, it's easy to read along if people just want to read along. Or make a new thread every month featuring that month's news. Do we really need all of the info from months before the Vita launch when it's several months later (just an example)?

you've been in the official bioshcok thread haven't you lol!
the model in the official Bioshock thread isn't quite like that but it's thier but for older content, while newer content can be found in the op, older content can be found in the third post linking you to the view post of that content or video.

depends on how much new content comes in. no one said making the newest content available was going to be easy. it just needs to be more accessible
in short, just know when old content is to old to keep even after making it a view post, and make the newest info available in the op, or a second post.
if i remember correctly, that's how d21lewis did his Vita 3DS comparison thread, but he didn't need a view post link cause he tried to make sure he had enough reserved post.
I'll just say this since I made the official vita thread
I am not going to update the opening post for every new piece of news in the thread. We discuss many news items in the thread and it will just basically become a headache. If someone has trouble finding something they missed they can always ask and me or someone else who posts in the thread will be more than happy to oblige and link them to it. I do this all the time. The OP is mainly for hardware related news and a general overview of things. It's important to understand not all threads serve the same purpose. I update the thread title so people know of any new important info that we find and acts as a notification and I'm extremely pleased with the ability to change thread title. It's very useful. If someone finds such threads hard to follow, either make one yourself to follow the ideas you have or just don't enter it. No one is forcing you

I have used the 2nd and 3rd posts of the thread for different reasons so far but have a different idea to try and execute in the coming weeks using it. It's a discussion thread mainly and I'm more than happy to try accommodate those who actually use it and contribute to it and have some good ideas I wanna try out
