Forums - General - A tattoo, should I get it?

Basically, the last few weeks i've been seriously contemplating getting a tattoo. My mother is against it, so it makes the the idea even more enticing tbh. The tattoo I am thinking of getting is basically this one;

these little bastards weaving around my elbow, so up the bicep and towards the lower arm, only like 4/5 small black ones.

Have you had a tattoo and have you lived to regret it? I obviously don't want to tattoo someones name or something like that, but I think even if I don't like BT anymore, the tatoo itself is quite nice and simplistic. Dilemas and choices.

I have a tattoo myself, got it in Nov 2010, fair chunk of art in size, so far I definitely don't regret it.

I'm not gonna tell you that you should get a tattoo, but if you pick a design or whatever that you like and avoid getting names from lovers or whatever, you probably won't regret it

Also, my opinion on the family matter: YOU should decide to get a tattoo or not, don't let anyone (Even family and friends) lecture on whether or not you should.

If you have to ask then...NVM, ROL beat me to it.

yeah go for it. It is a nice design and why on earth shouldn't you?

Indeed. If you have to ask, you're unsure. If you're unsure, don't do it.

And if the disagreement of somebody makes it more enticing - although I don't know you personally - that makes you sound still a little immature and/or insecure. And that's why in my opinion you should wait.

This has nothing to do with you, but i'll tell you anyway. :P

In Japan you can't get into normal hotsprings with a tattoo. (Apparently there are places that allow tattoos, but you'll likely end up meeting shady people (yakuza) there...)

I don't think I would ever get one myself, but I can appreciate them artistically, your choice of a few simple bird silhouettes on your arm I think would look good.

Wait until you're 25, then decide.

That's definitely not a good reason to get a tattoo.

In my opinion, getting a tatoo that doesn't have significant personal meaning is one of the lamest things a person can do; and at 19 I highly doubt you have the insight to get a tatoo that has significant personal meaning.

The world is full of guy's who have barbwire tatoos on their arms, and girls who have butterfly/flower tramp-stamps, and all these say about them is that they're just as uncreative and unoriginal as every other loser in the world.

Valid points, the fact that I am asking does show unsureness in the fact that I think I might come to regret it at a later date, when I am considerably older. The getting it just to annoy mum was just a joke, that didn't go down too well it seems though. I am not sure because so many had come to regret their spur of the decision and it may also have an effect in regards to finding work in the future - like some workplaces not allowing visible tattoos etc that makes me ponder.

I don't need a tattoo with a significant personal meaning, simply because I don't take life seriously enough yet - there was no significant event that has left an imprint on my life other than my grandfather's death, and that's not something I'd want a tattoo to remind me about.

Get a penis tatoo'd on your head, start a new trend :p

On a more serious note, I would recommend waiting till your 25 (which I think should be the legal age before giving consent to another person permanently mutilating your body for the rest of your life).

If you do decide to go ahead with it, get something small and in a place easily concealed so if you decide afterwards you dont like it, you wont be stuck with something you cant cover if you need too.

I know a few people who have had tatoo's, and all of them have regretted it in some fashion. One had a panther which covered his entire lower arm, but to be honest it looked shit (though I wouldnt tell him that) and I guess he has never been totally happy with it as has had to go back and have multiple adjustments made to it, and now it looks like a big colourful mess that you can hardly tell what it was. I reckon if something came up to him with some magic gel that could remove it, he would probably bite their hand off and be willing to pay more for that than he did the tatoo itself.

I cant say I have ever seen someone with a tatoo which I thought to myself afterwards 'wow, thats cool' it usually more always along the lines of 'what the f**k were you thinking?'

The best way to find out if you can trust somebody is to trust them.
