I hate 99% of Japanese games with a passion, but I still wouldn't call them irrelevant as it's just my personal preference and many millions of people wouldn't agree. I'm not a fascist who backs up everything Western either, for example I think Uncharted / Naughty Dog sucks, I'm British and I think Ninja Theory are an embarrassment to my country (thank goodness for Rocksteady + Media Molecule!), the list of western franchises/ developers I dislike goes on for miles, if I like a game I don't care where it's made, I don't think anyone should.

You need to open thoes tiny little eys of yours and realze that not every japanese developer are going down without a fight from these developers with their *quality* american titles. Nintendo can blow their games out of the water with their 1st party lineup. Stating that Nintendo is the exception because they produce causual games just shows your irrelevance to gaming..
I would not say irrelevant, but not as important as it used to be.
Japanese developers failed to create a franchise as big as Battlefied, CoD, GTA or even Assassin's Creed in the past decade. (not mentioning Halo, Uncharted and Gears for being exclusives) Furthermore their existing franchises declined rapidly. Final Fantasy, Resident Evil even MGS is not the highlight of the year as they used to be.
They try to reinvent their franchises but fail to do so most of the times.
Imagine not having GamePass on your console...

Dumb thread.
First off Nintendo's first party is not casual. It appeals to everybody which is why they sell so well.
Second, You seem bias towards sony which is strange to see on this site. Japan still sells consoles and games, just not as many. Metal Gear Solid, Final Fantasy, kingdom of Hearts, Monster Hunters, Pokemon anybody?
Third, When any american game reaches Mario or pokemon numbers please let everybody know. The problem with Japanese games is not that they make bad game, it's just that they don't appeal to americans and europeans just like our games dont appeal to them. Besides all of Nintendo's games because as I stated before, they appeal to all ages, all genders, everybody.
