I have yet to see anything credible that would suggest that the third Xbox is in development. What we have is a rumor from EGM and their track record on rumors is not so good that I trust everything from them. I also highly doubt that Microsoft has any intention or desire to copy what Sony is doing right now. Their current buisness practices have cost them billions on the console market after spending a long time on top using a slightly different buisness strategy.

Supposing the rumor is true though, I don't think it is anywhere near a confirmation that we will have the system by 2009.  If the rumor of Microsoft trying to build a motion sesning controller are correct (and it is very likely to be true if you ask me) then the whole gam could take a while to develop. I would guess that they are going to use a major franchise with near perfect controls (however they are implemented) to push the system when it is launched. Microsoft has already stated they do not want a 4 year life span for a console so it is unlikely that they are going to want to replace the 360 so soon when it is doing well currently.

 Yes. I have no faith in that statement, that would be the dumbest bussiness decision MS have made in their console department.
