how does this get so many post so fast this far into the gen?

personally i believe you cant go wrong with either one at this point they both have pretty good lists of established exclusives and most games are now available on both. its not like the last few gens where the choice was much easier as it was evident that one console had the most diverse exclusives and had a pretty strong hold on the 3rd party devs

going of your criteria i would lean slightly towards the PS3, you should also look at games that your currently not really interested in, b/c you never know you might have a change of mind for a particular type of game in the future. theres alot of games in my collection for this gen that i would of never thought i would own, they interned my collection and i dont regret them b/c of things like losing interest in repeat franchise, and internet hype

Haha yeah I was thinking the same! I'm really surprised by how fast, and how big, this thread has grown! But the choice isn't getting any easier. Most seem to say I should get both of 'em; but I'm waiting to get my hands on the WiiU as well this year...

The exclusives I'm most interested in are Fable-series and Uncharted-series... But it's starting to look like I should get meself a better PC as well!

Instead of listening to everyone telling you what to get...
Just take a look at the games, the console that has the games that appeal to you, go for that one.

Graphically both consoles aren't that far apart and both look rather ancient now compared to a PC.
And other than exclusives, they have the same game library to. You won't really be choosing the "wrong" console either way. Just choose the one where the exclusives appeals to you. (As we all have differing tastes and all.)

Conversely, you could just ditch the consoles, build yourself a decent PC and buy a ton of games off a Steam sale.
PC's are incredibly powerful these days and it doesn't need to be overly expensive; and other than console exclusive games... It has most of them to. Plus much much more. (Think: 2+ decades worth of games, the capability to play entire older consoles library's on top of it to via Emulation.)

Yeah, I've been adviced to get myself a better PC in this thread... That way I get all the 3rd parties - but I'm also missing out on the exclusives! I wanna get my hands on uncharted and some more fable!

The Wii and the 360 have the best variety of games. If you want to compliment graphics with that and free online then PS3. The PS3's library is still growing at a healthy rate.

How do you mean that the 360 has a better variery of games in regards of the PS3? would you mind explaining some more? :)

The 360 doesn't have the most variety, that was typo on my part (Sorry about that). It has the worst first party support outside of Kinect of the big three.   Earlier on around the first three years (2005-2008) of the 360's life it did have great variety. It was still mostly third parties doing the work for Microsoft though. The PS3 has more variety in its lineup and have more wealth when it comes to quality first party IP lineups, so you could imagine second and third party exclusives are a bonus. Sony has a bunch of companies whom a lot of gamers trust and have grown up with under their wing or partnered with them. If you solely value FPS and Multiplayer then go with the 360, if you value good multiplayer with great focus on  great exclusive titles then the PS3 is for you. The PS3 also has Blu Ray and upscales DVD's. It's a better multimedia console. It's also cheaper to maintain.

Haha, I'm going to! Probably not at launch tho: I don't want any of those crappy baby diseases! But I'm getting one for sure!

EDIT: but I gotta entertain myself up to that point, right? ;)

This is VGChartz, ps3 fans out number 360 fans 5:1. Ps3 will win in every one of these polls.

I guess you're a Microsoft kind of guy? Why should I buy the box then? Got any good games?

I think "Microsoft kind of guy" is a bit of an understatement. Every post I've seen from him involves a complaint about PS3 fans or excessive praise for the 360.

Anyway, you should buy what appeals to you most really, you know what you want better than we do. You said you weren't interested in shooters and that you're more interested in a variety of games, action / adventure games and RPG's, so I would recommend the PS3. What consoles do your friends have?

I guess it's actually 50/50 between PS3 and Xbox360 - I'm the only one with a Wii :( but I think most of them actually play the PC most of all..

If you care about the motion part of the two systems I would say get the 360 for the Kinect. But if that does not matter to you then you should go with the PS3. I am probably wrong, but after glancing over various Microsoft threads and Sony threads over the years it seems that the PS3 may have better graphics and more exclusives. Seems like it to me.
Also it has a bluRay player.

I'm NEVER getting a kinect! :O

You don't want Kinect, you don't care about multiplayer, and you don't like fps. I would recommend a PS3 to anybody 100% of the time, but in your case I'm recommending it 200%. If you are trying to entertain yourself with something till the Wii U comes out, (or just entertain yourself period) The PS3 in my opinion is definitely the better choice. It has a better variety of games, which seems to be what you are concerned with the most.

I spent $299 on my PS3 and havent spent a cent on  up keep  since outside of a new controller and headset.

For my 360...lets see...

320 GB HD $130

Battery pack, had to stop the maddness from the constant batteries. $30

Extra controllers $39.99

Xbox Live $60

Turtle Beach headset  $69.99

My friends have more accessories than me. I cut it off at that.

If he gets curious though, the PS3 has multiplayer and FPS at his disposal if he wants it. He's not missing out on much. The FPS titles that everyones playing these days are multiplat.
