8/10 of the top ten games are Nintendo published.

Has that kind of domination ever happened in any region before?

In case anyone wants a bit of amusement:

One of the other boards I frequent is 1up. On this board, one of the people who has been consistently anti-Wii was adamantly emphasizing the sales dips for the Wii during the 3rd quarter of the year in Japan, insisting that this showed "true" Wii demand and that soon, these drops would be experienced in other regions. Furthermore, the initial sales of Mario Galaxy became the jewel in his crown; the game initially sold well under Super Mario Sunshine in Japan (according to both Famitsu and Media Create), and he was absolutely insisting that this proves that demand is gone and that SMG would never pass Super Mario Sunshine, because "core" fans had abandoned Nintendo.

So, this week, Super Mario Galaxy passed the total sales of SMS in Japan, with room to spare and presumably hundreds of thousands more copies to sell in its lifetime, and everyone was rather quick to shove this information down the poster's throat. Even the admins got in on it. It's all rather delicious. Looky here!

Edit: look at the third post down for a complete list of quotes from the offending poster.

Still I gotta hand it to the Japanese. Only they can take so much of repeated Final Fantasy games and still be excited for the next one.

We were talking just Japan. This poster (Giant Crab) was insisting that SMG would never outsell SMS in Japan and that this showed that Wii demand was slowing and that it was just a fad and that it was only ever selling because people couldn't find it anywhere which made it seem really cool.

We'll have a similar situation here in a couple of months with all of the people who thought SMG could never outsell Halo 3.  Remember the Legend11 thread where he defined SMG as a failure if it didn't match Halo 3's initial sales in America?

And when that failure surpasses Halo 3 and doesn't look back, what will that say about Microsoft's best?

That Nintendo's best is better... which isn't that surprising.  I mean Mario is one of Nintendo's biggest advantages.  A sustainable one so long as he gets managed right.
