what is this, I don't even
The scarier part is that he could get help from the other side on this. Many left-wingers are opposed to pornography for just the reasons he described (promotion of misogyny and facilitator for human trafficking). I spent a semester at an NGO dedicated to stopping the "demand" for human trafficking, and the founder of the NGO was a woman who has been a voice against pornography, but otherwise a rather strident lefty.
And to a point, both are legitimate concerns that deserve addressing. As we have come to turn sex into a commodity, this means that there will be individuals out there looking to prey on vulnerable young women both within America and all over the world, in order to supply free labor into the prostitution market (sex slaves). This is, however, a problem that could be resolved with careful legalization of prostitution: bring it above-board and it can be taxed to the point that it would pay for its own regulation, and even contribute surplus revenue
On the matter of objectification of women, the answer is less clear. Some women see it as a form of empowerment, and as far as pornography involving real individuals goes, one usually sees it as more neutral rather than degrading to any one side. Some of it does get very misogynistic very quickly, of course, and this is an issue, but therein one could conduct studies to see if the viewing of pornography actively contributes to the lowering of one's view of women, similar to studying whether violent games make one more violent.
Porn is, of course, my personal vice. I don't drink, smoke, or do drugs, but i do sample a fair bit of porn (mostly hentai, however).

Rick Santorum is so far in the closet he must be seeing Narnia.
He must be up there with Fred Phelps in biggest closet cases.
"Naturally the common people don't want war: Neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, IT IS THE LEADERS of the country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is TELL THEM THEY ARE BEING ATTACKED, and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. IT WORKS THE SAME IN ANY COUNTRY." --Hermann Goering, leading Nazi party member, at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials

While at it, they should also ban Television, Video Games, Guns and Computers and we can all go back to the jolly good pre-19th century days of good old family gatherings |
I am amazed by your analogy.

Oh and by the way, Pornography and Alcohol have been around in family lives for a couple of thousand of years. Oddly, the things I've mentioned, have been part of a family's life for the past couple of decades (centuries in the case of guns). Now I ask you this: Are you really sure it's pornography and alcohol that's stopping a "healthy family life"?

If they kill TV, they'll have no way of trashing their opponents in the next election of course!
What's all that campaign money going to be used for then?!
