The Two Multiplayer Modes In Ninja Gaiden 3 And How They Work

By Ishaan . March 12, 2012 . 10:59am

Ninja Gaiden 3 has an online multiplayer mode, called “Shadows of the World”. This consists of both co-op and deathmatch, which Tecmo Koei’s community manager recently provided a little further insight into.

Deathmatch, as previously reported, allows for up to 8 players. This is called Clan Battle, and while the primary objective is to defeat the other team, each player will also get a separate objective (see bottom right of above screen), called a “Shadow Contract,” that they need to fulfil.

You may recall Tecmo mentioning at one point that you can betray your allies in Clan Battle mode. This appears to be part of the Shadow Contract feature. You can view a multiplayer Clan Battle video here.

“Ninja Trials” is the game’s co-op mode, or if you prefer, you can play it by yourself, too. By clearing Ninja Trials and performing certain in-game tasks like defeating enemies using Ninpo, you earn Karma. Karma increases your ninja’s level and as you gain levels, you’re able to perform more actions.

It’s possible to customize your ninja for multiplayer as well. While the ones above look fairly similar to Ryu with different colours, this is another possible look:

Ninja Gaiden 3 will be available on March 20th in North America and March 23rd in Europe for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. A Wii U version will follow at a later date. You can find more screenshots of the game’s multiplayer mode here.

Why is Ninja Gaiden 3 not as hyped up as the first two were to people? o.O

Thought it was a pretty good series.

Because Itagaki, the man that basically made the series what it is today, is gone. A lot of Nina Giaden's hype always came from the big fans of the modern games (like me). However with all the dreadful changes they have made to this game it's pretty hard to get excited. As an example we have gone from having 8 unique, well balanced and fun weapons each with HUGE combo lists to master.... to one.

A lot of the core fans simply weren't interested in multiplayer especially when it seems to have come at such a ridiculously high cost to the singleplayer. Despite the singleplayer being HUGELY stripped of content the time estimate they gave was 8-10 hours, compared to 15 hours estimate for NG2. So getting a campaign with 2/3rds the length and 1/8th the weapon variety. With features like dismemberment etc removed.

Basically a lot of us feel it will end up being a good action game but a bad Ninja Gaiden game.

Turkish says and I'm allowed to quote that: Uncharted 3 and God Of War 3 look better than Unreal Engine 4 games will or the tech demo does. Also the Naughty Dog PS3 ENGINE PLAYS better than the UE4 ENGINE.

Well we can't play through the game yet. 10hours for NG2 would be pretty fast though. At the moment we have to compare what they are stating. NG2 was stated to be around 15 hours long. Whereas for NG3 Tecmo is stating it will be around 8-10 hours long. Usually games are a little shorter than stated time. My point was simply that even for the time they are giving it is very short.

AndrewWK the first two games are the best action games ever made in my opinion. The combat system is totally unmatched. I would recommend getting Sigma on the PS3 instead of black. However I personally would recommend NG2 over NG 2 Sigma. Even though there were some additions there were also a fair amount of compromises to get it to work with the engine they used for the PS3 version.

There is no option for me, I only have a PS3 and as far as I know there are only the Sima versions for the PS3.

After being disappointed with NG2 and watching gameplay of NG3, it's safe to say this is a bargain bin title. However I believe these modes are quite ambitious for the genre, and whether they end up being functional or fun remains to be seen but TN  should be acknowledged for trying to break the mould at least.

Haha I assumed as you had Shepherd for an avatar you would have a 360 =D. If you only have a PS3 then Sigma 2 is still definitely worth picking up. Some people enjoyed it more than 2.

Just a few fans like me were a little annoyed at the reduction in enemy count, body parts and blood vanishing nearly instantly etc. It wasn't simply a port they had to rebuild the game for the PS3. So some things are changed. In most cases it's easier due to lower enemy counts but on master ninja (which is insanely hard) the PS3 version added some cheap one hit kills but removed some projectible spam. Horses for courses.

However graphically the PS3 version has better lighting and some details are better. While 360 version handles bloom, character count and some other effects better.
