I think it's a reference to people's perceptions of MLP, which existed before the current show. Even G1 was a lot darker than unicorns-and-rainbows though, so I don't know how people came away with that impression.

Blizzard did the same thing with the Secret Cow Level in Diablo 3.

I don't think either reference has to do with MLP G4 itself, but just that people third-hand have heard of "ponies" due to G4's popularity and think that what ponies is, is the Blizzard and Valve version.

I've just accepted that the mainstream perception of cartoons will not change, much as the perception of videogames will not change from "Hookers and shoot-em-ups".

You'd figure 20 years of the Simpsons (and those that followed in the Simpsons' footsteps) would have changed that.

I guess it could be seen as a parody of MLP, that most people are going to associate with their impression of the series

I'm literally in full pony craze right now because I don't have school for almost 2 more months, and I still have season 2 to watch!

The Wii didn't change the videogame perception. People mentally zone it out and don't let it affect them. They don't think of them "cartoons" just of they don't think of the Wii as a "video game" most likely.

I started watching when S2 was around 5 episodes in - you get through episodes really quickly if you don't have much to do, and it shocked me when I got to the point where I had to wait until saturday for the next episode to come out xD
