Hey everyone. First post here, though I've been lurking for ages, and I hope I got the images inserted properly. Anyway, I've been a brony for a little over a year but didn't start drawing until about two months ago. Got the idea the other to make griffin-versions of some of the existing ponies from the show. Hope to have some meaningful discussion with you all!

What I want to point out about this isn't that a representation of the show's bronies will appear in mainstream media (which is pretty inevitable), it's that the EqD comments section is holding out hope for a fair or even positive portrayal of bronies.

I think they've spent so long getting used to ponies that they have forgotten that the immediate reaction of the public to males liking ponies is swift, negative, and nonspecific. As in, even in expressing negativity, they don't care at all about the show or why someone would like it. It's just not important to them.

Sitcoms appeal to popular perception in making an episode funny. Coming up with 22 minutes of original comedy is too expensive to justify. So OF COURSE they will basically hold out the common idea of a "brony", say "look how stupid these people are" and move on to the next similar joke.

On the other hand the sitcom has nothing to gain in viewership or comedy value from using an accurate depiction of fans.

The solution to not getting upset with that fact is to not identify yourself as a "brony", but just be happy in yourself that your personal likes include a cool show. Membership of a fanbase doesn't need to define you as a person.

I've never watched Hot In Cleveland, but i've seen a fair bit of their promos on TV Land (the US channel that they're hosted on) to know that it probably will be a solid half-hour of cheap riffs.

The only sitcom that could give bronies a halfway fair shake is "Big Bang Theory." Despite their purile sex-jokes, they don't mock geeky countercultures for simply being what they are.

I'm not blaming the show. It's their business model and it works and I respect that. I have a problem with any brony who feels like they deserve a positive portrayal on these shows. Because i) they're individuals and their like for ponies shouldn't define them and ii) because what you like doesn't matter at all.

Can I turn up in a Sony thread, post a picture of a Walkman, say 'sorry guys but I have no interest in reading this thread, but I heard this was made by Sony", and then not get banned for trolling?

You could have posted this in a kinder tone. Something like "hey, this looks relevant to your interests," and just the link would have been much better.
