Handed in my first ever thesis essay today (History of Science). Had a tutorial on it, I tried to get her to say how to, like, get marks on the exam, and she said "There are no right answers :)"

Wow I wish I hadn't taken this subject.

Yeah apparently you can just write whatever and as long as it's put together well you get a first class mark.

Then I realised that my tutor is in fact a tenured faculty member of the History and Philosophy of Science department at Cambridge and hence is paid to do this for a living, with no consequences if she is right or wrong.

And then I realised my $14000 in tuition and future taxes is going to pay this woman to do that.

Anyway offtopic sorry.

Academia is fun (read: infuriating) like that. What they want you to learn is how to argue more than what to argue, which can be a little hard to wrap your head around.
